There are several things on tonight that I wanted to recommend, but I decided to stay true to my cop show-loving heart, so my pick tonight is the series premiere of East New York. Not only is it a cop show, but the cast has two members who I love in everything I’ve watched them in: Jimmy Smits and Richard Kind.

Amanda Warren stars as Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th Precinct in East New York — a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification. With family ties to the area, Haywood is determined to deploy creative methods to protect her beloved community with the help of her officers and detectives. But first, she has the daunting task of getting them on board, as some are skeptical of her promotion, and others resist the changes she is desperate to make. Her team includes her mentor, shrewd veteran two-star Chief John Suarez (Smits); Marvin Sandeford (Ruben Santiago Hudson), a highly respected training officer and expert on the neighborhood; Tommy Killian (Kevin Rankin), a detective with some old-school approaches to policing; Capt. Stan Yenko (Kind), Haywood’s gregarious and efficient right hand; Crystal Morales (Elizabeth Rodriguez), an intuitive detective who can’t be intimidated; Andre Bentley (Lavel Schley), a trainee from an upper middle-class background; and ambitious patrol officer Brandy Quinlan (Olivia Luccardi), the sole volunteer to live in a local housing project as part of Haywood’s plan to bridge the gap between police and community. Regina Haywood has a vision: she and the squad of the 74th Precinct will not only serve their community — they’ll also become part of it.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Amanda Warren is promoted to be boss of the 74th precinct in East New York, where she must get her crew on board — but some are skeptical of her promotion.

Check out the latest cop drama tonight on CBS at a special time of 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, SEAL Team, Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Family Law, Halloween Wars, Outrageous Pumpkins, & The Rookie.

There is SO MUCH ON tonight, but since I want to really try to limit how many I’ll pick, my top pick tonight is the series premiere of So Help Me Todd. Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin star as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright and Todd, her talented but aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. As the black sheep of the Wright family, Todd is a laidback, quick-thinking, former private detective who fell on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law got his license revoked. Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations. When Todd inadvertently teams with his mother on a case, she’s surprised to find herself duly impressed by – and proud of – his crafty ability to sleuth out information with his charm and his wide-ranging tech savvy. At last, Margaret sees a way to put her son on a “suitable” path to living an adult, financially solvent life she approves of, and she asks him to join her firm. Todd agrees, since it means getting his license back and once again doing the job he excels at and loves. Mother and son working together is a big first step toward mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship, and they may even come away with a better understanding of each other. But whether Todd and Margaret will be able to accept each other for who they are is another case entirely. It also stars Inga Schlingmann, Madeline Wise, Rosa Arredondo, & Tristen J. Winger.

Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin are both fantastic and fun to watch, and the previews definitely make it seem like this is going to be both funny and heartwarming, so I’ve been so looking forward to seeing it since it was first announced. I’m excited to check it out tonight.

On tonight’s pilot episode, m eticulous attorney Margaret Wright hires her scruffy son as her law firm’s in-house investigator.

Catch the series premiere tonight on CBS at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Hell’s Kitchen, Law & Order, Ghosts (YES!), Law & Order: SVU, CSI: Vegas (YES!), & Law & Order: OC.

Last week’s Chicago PD premiere was tense for most of the episode. The premiere picked up only a couple weeks after last season’s finale, where Hailey was forced to shoot Anna, killing her. Hailey and Jay were super concerned about Voight, who had been basically a one-man unit to get drugs and the dealers off the streets in that neighborhood, and it came to a head when Voight spoke to them alone, reiterating that he was fine and that if they didn’t knock it off and stop letting it affect the job, the three of them wouldn’t be able to work together anymore. Since Jesse Lee Sofer (Jay Halstead) is leaving this season, you have to wonder if it ties in to everything going on… On a sad but good note, the new chief got Anna’s payment pushed through, and her son will be receiving nearly half a million dollars for her undercover work. Small consolation for losing his mother, but still…

On tonight’s episode, “The Real You,” when a convicted murderer hijacks a prison van, the team scrambles to find him and the abducted prison guard before it’s too late. Burgess questions Ruzek’s motives in a case, creating tension between the two.

See if Intelligence can find the murderer and abducted guard on time and if Burgess and Ruzek can get past their issues tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Chicago Med, The Conners, Survivor, The Goldbergs, Chicago Fire, Guy’s Ultimate Game Night, The Amazing Race, & No-Recipe Road Trip with The Try Guys.

The Rookie has been one of my favorites since it premiered, so I am super excited about the new spinoff, The Rookie: Feds. Niecy Nash is hilarious, and when she had a guest appearance on the original, she was super entertaining and really made me want to keep watching her. She makes a fantastic FBI agent, and I love the fact that the franchise is branching off to bring us some more comedic crime fighting.

On tonight’s episode, “Day One,” fresh out of the FBI Academy, Simone Clark arrives in Los Angeles and has her sights set on joining Matthew Garza’s newly formed special unit as they investigate the murder of a federal engineer. Garza’s squad includes Carter Hope, a promotion-hungry traditionalist, Laura Stenson, a talented agent in desperate need of a second chance, and Brendon Acres, a former actor who graduated from Quantico with Simone. On the home front, Simone and Cutty’s father-daughter relationship is put to the test as their opposing opinions about law enforcement come to a head.

Find out how Simone does in Los Angeles tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching FBI, The Voice, The Resident, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, and New Amsterdam.

It was a great week of premieres, but they’re far from over! If you’ve been around for any length of time, you know how much I love my Food Network and cooking/baking competition shows. Tonight’s premiere of Halloween Cookie Challenge is going to be no exception, especially given the host!

Jet Tila (LOVE him on shows like Guy’s Grocery Games & Cutthroat Kitchen) and YouTube baker Rosanna Pansino host and judge this new cookie baking competition. Five crafty bakers compete to deliver on the ultimate treat and prove their cookie-making skills by decorating decadent and show-stopping Halloween cookie creations for the ultimate prize: the title of Halloween Cookie Champion!

On tonight’s episode, “Cute, Creepy and Spellbound,” four talented cookie makers swap good and evil with their cute and creepy Halloween cookie characters. Then, the cookiers use their most deviously delicious recipes to craft 3D ancient spell books with the right amount of black magic from ingredients like black cherries, black tea, black sesame seeds and blackberries.

Don’t miss the fun premiere tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Dancing with the Stars, Bob Hearts Abishola, Halloween Baking Championship, NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, & Quantum Leap.
