One of my favorite people to watch on TV is Poppy Montgomery. I loved her in both Unforgettable & Without a Trace, so I’m thrilled to have her back in Reef Break. I also like Ray Stevenson (Babylon Fields, Rome, Saints & Strangers), and Desmond Chiam (Now Apocalypse) is quite good-looking. And I LOVE the premise of this new drama. Poppy plays Cat Chambers, former thief-turned-fixer for the governor of a stunning and seductive Pacific Island paradise. She’s impulsive, reckless, yet irresistible, and her past gives her an instinctive gift for understanding crime and criminals as she becomes involved in adventures and intrigue on the island paradise known as The Reef. The show also stars Melissa Bonne (Pulse) and Australian actress Tamala Shelton.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” when former thief Cat Chambers returns home to the Pacific island paradise known as The Reef, she finds herself in the center of a kidnapping, when the daughter of the island’s most prominent resident goes missing.

Meet Cat in paradise tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

It’s so surreal and depressing that we could be only five episodes from the final episode of Archer, but that appears to be the reality. Whether or not it gets picked up for an eleventh season (or more), at the end of tonight’s episode we are halfway done with the newest incarnation of the brilliant, dialogue intensive comedy: Archer 1999. This third season of Archer’s coma dreams is a truncated eight-episode order, as were the first two, Archer Dreamland & Archer Danger Island.

This year the theme is finally fully sci-fi in a galaxy far, far away. As usual the satire spreads across several send ups, with last week’s installment playing like an eff’d up “Tribbles” episode from the seminal Star Trek series. Stuck in deep space with no food, still parsecs from a supply station, they found themselves overwhelmed by the eggs that a stowaway alien creature kept laying. They were slimy little gross eggs, but eventually the crew started consuming them. They then all begin to behave unusually, culminating in Archer & Lana engaging in a sex marathon, when we all know they can’t stand one another.

Mother, now a hologram AI being untethered from a body that required food, analyzed the situation and determined that the alien eggs were unlocking the inner desires of the whole crew. Cheryl eventually jettisoned the rest of the eggs and the alien who produced them, just as Bret showed up in a spaceship to rescue them. Bret, who famously got shot over and over till he died in the baseline reality version of Archer, died again when the eggs poured into his engine, making his ship explode.

This was easily the funniest episode yet this year. I hope that we get another season, even if creator Adam Reed leaves the show. This is one of the most unique and intelligent shows of the last decade. Whatever happens, just let it be known that this show has been baby-tattooingly awesome!

On tonight’s episode, “Dining with the Zarglorp,” deep in space, Archer and the crew encounter a terrifying cosmic beast. Even deeper, they encounter a self-aggrandizing life coach.

Meet the new beast and life coach tonight on FXX at 10/9c.

I’ll be watching Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and I’ll also probably catch up on Krypton since I need summer content!

Tonight, one of my favorite comedies, The Detour, returns for its fourth season on TBS. Last season, the Parker family headed to Alaska and assumed fake identities to hide from the authorities, but as usual, they managed to mess things up and went back on the run. Meanwhile, the somewhat crazy Edie had been stalking Nate after she secretly impregnated herself with his sperm. It turns out that Edie also happened to be a long-lost sister of Robin’s. (How is she going to react when she finds out that her husband is the father of her niece/nephew?!) In the season finale, the family ended up in an abandoned ghost town filled with LARPers. Delilah used this distraction to exact a plan she had apparently been laying the groundwork for all season. She ran away, stealing her family’s money and a car from an admirer, leaving a message for the rest of her family, requesting that they not look for her.

The new season picks up several months later, with Nate, Robin, and Jared amidst their world-wide search for Delilah. What I love about this show is its blend of physical comedy and deliciously inappropriate humor. This show doesn’t worry about being PC and goes places that many comedies would shy away from. The Parkers are constantly getting into ridiculously awkward situations, and as they try to get out of them, they only succeed in making things ten times worse. Even if they are trying to do the right thing, there is always some sort of misunderstanding or unintended consequences to their actions. I can’t wait to see where the search for Delilah leads the Parkers this season and what kind of craziness they cause in the process. I checked out the first two episodes, and the show is just as wild and insane as ever. Just when you think they can’t top the previous season, they somehow manage to do so!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Search,” the Parkers embark on a world-wide search to find their runaway daughter, Delilah.

Find out how the season starts tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Blood & Treasure, The 100, Animal Kingdom, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Tonight two very different shows return to kick off new seasons.

First up, airing on both Syfy and USA Network, is the second season premiere of Krypton. In the first season, present-day Earthling Adam Strange traveled back in time to the planet Krypton to warn Seg-El – the future grandfather of Superman – of a pending attack by time-traveling super-villain Brainiac. If this Devourer of Worlds managed to destroy the planet, causing Superman to never be born, the Earth would be doomed. However, Kandor City was currently too distracted by a religious and political war that was going on – an underground rebellion known as Black Zero had formed against those in charge.

As the season came to a close, Brainiac finally arrived and started his attack on Kandor City. Dru-Zod, the future son of Lyta-Zod and Seg-El, had also traveled back in time to stop Braniac, but he had his own ulterior motives, desiring to rule over Krypton. He joined Black Zero, rising up the ranks, while awaiting Braniac’s arrival. Meanwhile, Seg-El’s grandfather Val-El, who was presumed dead, was actually alive and was rescued from the Phantom Zone by Dru-Zod; Jax-Ur revealed to Nyssa that she was in fact just a clone of the original Nyssa; and Doomsday escaped containment. During the big final showdown, Seg-El managed to trap Brainiac in the Phantom Zone, but he was pulled in as well. Dru-Zod destroyed the Phantom Zone gateway, trapping them both in there. He then seized control of Kandor City as well as most of the other Kryptonian City-States, declaring himself the leader. When Adam returned to Earth, he discovered a ruined city, with a giant statue of Zod.

The second season picks up 6 months later, as Zod continues to expand his empire. The others believe Seg-El is dead and don’t want his sacrifice to have been in vain. Even though Braniac has been stopped, the Earth still appears to be doomed. Can Adam and the resistance stop Zod’s evil plan to take over the world and fix things back to how they should be? Will they find a way to save Seg-El from the Phantom Zone? What does Nyssa’s revelation that she is a clone mean? And what does Doomsday’s escape pose another big danger? It looks like this will be another exciting season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Light-Years From Home,” Seg-El is stranded far from home, where his grandfather leads a rebellion against General Zod.

To see if Seg-El makes it home, tune in to Syfy and USA Network at 10/9c.

I’m super excited because another favorite game show that I used to watch reruns of all the time, Press Your Luck, is premiering tonight! If you don’t know this one, this game show’s contestants answer questions to earn spins and then use those spins on the “Big Board,” to win cash and other prizes. Unfortunately, the “WHAMMY” can get them. I don’t know how they’ll handle it now, but at least back in the day, the whammies were these cute little…elf-like creatures dressed in various costumes that walked across the TV screen and stole all the money if a contestant landed on them.

Elizabeth Banks is the new host. She’s been in a lot of things, but for me she’s most notably from Scrubs. I hope she’ll be a fun host and that they kept all the fun Whammies in their silly costumes and actions. I’ll definitely be tuning in!

Don’t miss tonight’s premiere on ABC at 10/9c**.

**Unless you’re like me in the Kansas City area, which won’t get to see it until midnight, due to the KC mayoral debate. Boo! LOL

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped, Blood & Treasure, Sweet Home Sextuplets, & Songland.
