I’m so excited about tonight’s series premiere of Reverie. It comes from Mickey Fisher, the creator of Extant, and stars Sarah Shahi, whom I’ve loved in everything I’ve ever seen her in, like Person of Interest, Fairly Legal, & Life. She plays Mara Kint, a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who endured a horrible tragedy in her personal life and quit the police force and became a college professor. But her former boss, Charlie Ventana (played by the incomparable Dennis Haysbert, from one of my favorite shows ever, The Unit, among others), recruits her to do what she does best in an entirely new way. He now works with a company that invented a highly advanced immersive virtual-reality program called Reverie, in which you can live out your wildest dreams. It’s so good that they’re finding some people don’t want to come back out from it, and if they stay, they’ll die. So she’s brought in to go in with them and convince them to come out.

It’s such a fun, cool premise. I’ve seen the pilot, and it isn’t surprising that Sarah Shahi rocks it. She’s brilliant in everything, and this is no exception. The cast also includes Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes, Covert Affairs), Jessica Lu (Awkward.), & Kathryn Morris (Cold Case).

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot/Apertus,” former hostage negotiator Mara Kint is hired by tech company Oniratech to save people who have lost themselves in a sophisticated virtual reality program called Reverie.

Step inside Reverie tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, MasterChef, & Brother vs Brother.

Tonight, TNT’s family crime drama Animal Kingdom returns for its third season. Last season, the guys started to wonder why they were doing all the work and their mother, Smurf, was taking a huge cut, so they decided to do things on their own. This left J in the middle – he felt loyalty to both his uncles and his grandmother. Meanwhile, Baz was convinced that it was Smurf who killed his wife, so he planted evidence and arranged for Smurf to get arrested for another murder. He also stole all of the money that Smurf had been hiding from her sons and stashed it behind the walls of his home. While in prison, Smurf gave J the power of attorney over her affairs, as he was the only one she trusted. As the season ended, Baz and his girlfriend Lucy were about to take a trip to Mexico when someone approached their truck and put four bullets through the windshield and into Baz. As Baz lay on the ground bleeding out, Lucy ran away and cleared out all of the hidden money.

Will Baz survive his attack, and who arranged the hit? Did Lucy do it to get her hands on the money, and where did she move it to? Did Smurf arrange this as retaliation from jail? After all, Baz is her adopted son, while the others are all blood relatives. Did Pope, Craig, or Deran arrange the hit on their brother? Or was J responsible for getting the man he thinks might be his father shot? Who will step up to be the new leader of the group if Baz is out of commission? And how will Smurf manage to get herself out of prison? Also, Denis Leary joins the cast for season three, so I’m looking forward to seeing what awaits the Cody crime family this season!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Killing,” Baz fights for his life as the Cody boys figure out their next move in the aftermath of the shooting; Smurf gets some surprising news in jail and fields an offer from Pearce.

Catch up with life with the Codys tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Arrested Development, Legion, Chrisley Knows Best, and 100 Code.

Early this morning, Netflix dropped the final installment of Dreamworks’ Trollhunters. The second season of the series opened with Jim trapped in the Darklands. As Jim looked for baby Enrique, who had been taken by Gunmar the Black, Claire, Toby, and Blinky tried to find a way to help Jim return from the Darklands. Eventually both were successful in their missions. Meanwhile, Steve and Eli teamed up to figure out what secret Jim and the others were hiding. As the gang tried to get on with their normal lives, trouble was brewing in Trollmarket. There was a spy in their midst who was actively working to eliminate the Trollhunters and help Gunmar get into the city. The gang was able to hold off Gunmar long enough to evacuate Trollmarket, but in the process, Claire had to wield the Shadow Staff longer than she should have, and this will likely lead to some unfortunate side effects this season. Also, Gunmar had managed to resurrect Morgana, and together they are planning to bring about the Eternal Night, covering the world in darkness forever.

Like the previous season, season 3 is comprised of 13 episodes. However, Emile Hirsch takes over the role of Jim from the late Anton Yelchin. Also joining the cast for this final season are Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) & Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), playing two mysterious new students who unknowingly come to the aid of the Trollhunters. In this final installment, the Trollhunters must find a way to stop Gunmar and Morgana, and in order to do so, they seek the help of the legendary wizard Merlin (David Bradley, Game of Thrones, The Strain).

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and look forward to seeing what this final season holds. Anton Yelchin was an amazing actor and brought such personality to Jim – I hope Emile Hirsch can do the same. That said, I’m also excited to see how Steve and Eli will fit in as the latest members of the gang – it was so much fun seeing them finally met Blinky and AAARRRGGGHH!!! last season!

Season 3 of Trollhunters marks the end of the first chapter of Guillermo del Toro’s larger Tales of Arcadia trilogy, all set in the fictional suburb of Arcadia. The story will continue in the new series 3 Below, coming to Netflix later this year, followed by Wizards in 2019. I’m curious to see if we will get a glimpse into the next chapter during this final season of Trollhunters.

Check out the final season of this great show now on Netflix!

I’ll also be watching/recording Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest of Your Life.

Tonight, after nine seasons, it’s finally time to say goodbye to the Hecks as ABC airs a special one-hour series finale of The Middle. Last week Frankie discovered that Axl had interviewed for a job in Denver. She was worried about having her firstborn leave the nest and attempted to sway Axl from taking the job, including trying to recruit Axl’s girlfriend to give him an ultimatum to stay. Meanwhile, Sue was also sad to say her own goodbye. Sean was leaving for Ghana, and she never told him how she really felt about him. Sue tried to stop by his home, but he wasn’t there, so she stuffed the snow globe into his packed bag, along with a note.

Tonight, the series comes to an end, and as the Hecks says goodbye to Axl, the viewers say goodbye to the whole family, who have been a fun part of our lives for the past nine years. Tonight’s series finale is a perfect hour of television, keeping the episode primarily dialogue-driven and all about the family. The characters have lots of heartfelt moments with one another, while also making us laugh. The episode is also filled with callbacks to lots of the fun things that have happened on the series over the years and includes some fun guest appearances that longtime fans will appreciate. Much of the episode revolves around a family car trip, and while we’ve seen many of these over the course of the series, this may very well be the funniest. I am really going to miss this show in the fall!

How will the rest of the family react to the news that Axl is leaving? And will Sue ever get a chance to profess her love to Sean? Don’t miss tonight’s one-hour series finale and your chance to say goodbye to the Hecks!

On tonight’s finale, “A Heck of a Ride,” a Heck leaves the nest as the family takes a road trip to Denver, where Axl will start his new job – and new life away from home.

Say goodbye to a heck of a family (see what I did there?) tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Flash, The 100, Legion, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Last week’s NCIS: LA wasn’t one of my favorites, for several reasons. Mainly because it was basically an extension to a previous episode with little bits and pieces of new stuff thrown in. Nicole DeChamps, who recruited Sam into an undercover op dealing with Peruvian counterfeiter Alfonso Marca in the episode that tied into this one, was back. She had left the Secret Service and was now a member of NCIS in the San Diego office. (NCIS: San Diego just doesn’t have the same ring, does it? LOL) Turned out Marca’s sort-of daughter was killed in prison and NCIS was asked to determine whether or not she’d been assassinated or if it was just a regular prison killing.

The most interesting parts of the episode were the non-case stuff. Callen went to talk to Anna (for the first time since she shot Sokolov) when he was called by ATF to give his statement about what he saw or didn’t see at the time. Anna was clearly not happy that Callen hadn’t come to see her before then and told him to tell the truth, that Sokolov was already dead when he got there and he hadn’t seen anything. Things are not all right in the Anna/Callen relationship.

Tonight’s double-episode season finale should be interesting…mainly for Kensi & Deeks (given the preview, so I won’t spoil) and for Mosley, who gets the chance to rescue her son. I’m excited for that part!

On tonight’s episodes, “A Line in the Sand/Ninguna Salida,” Sam is shot during a firefight with a cartel, and a suspect reveals new information on the whereabouts of Spencer Williams, the man who kidnapped Mosley’s son five years ago. Despite several team members having grave reservations, NCIS travels to Mexico for a daring mission to locate and rescue Mosley’s son.

To see if the rescue mission is successful and where the team is left at the end of the season, tune in to CBS starting at 8/7c.
