If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/20/19

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

My pick tonight is actually two shows, both family competition shows premiering on BYUtv. First is the comedic game show Battle of the Ages, which pits two multi-generational family teams (grandparent, parent, child/teen) against each other in mental and physical challenges. It looks a little bit like Double Dare but with a few twists and just looks like a lot of fun.

Following that is the premiere of Dinner Takes All, a family cooking competition show hosted by celebrity chef Kelsey Nixon. Like several other shows, one of which is currently airing on Food Network, two teams of family members go head-to-head. In this one, it’s families of five who have to cook their “best Sunday dinner.” Each team uses family recipes to create an entrée, three side dishes, and a dessert while simultaneously playing interactive food-centric games for bonus points. Winning families receive a $10,000 cash prize. So it isn’t just a cooking show. There are fun games as well.

On tonight’s episode of Battle of the Ages, “Sanchez vs. Perkey,” grandparents get hints from pilot Lucky Lindenburger in a race to name the state he’s flying over.

Then on Dinner Takes All, “LoRusso Family vs. Castleberry Family,” the LoRusso and Castleberry families cook meals while playing games to win $10,000.

Catch all the fun tonight on BYUtv starting at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, Schooled, Gone, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Single Parents, Whiskey Cavalier, & SEAL Team.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/19/19

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, NBC kicks off the new drama The Village, which follows the intertwining lives of the residents of an apartment building in Brooklyn. Those living in The Village include single mother/nursing home physical therapist Sarah (Michaela McManus, SEAL Team, Aquarius) and her social activist teenage daughter Katie (Grace Van Dien, Greenhouse Academy), who seems to be making the same mistakes her mother did; law school student Gabriel and his grandfather, Pops (Dominic Chianese, The Sopranos), who recently lost his lifelong friend; immigrant Ava (Moran Atias, The Resident, Tyrant) and her young US-born son Sami, who are facing trouble with ICE; and wounded veteran, Staff Sergeant Nick Porter (Warren Christie, The Resident, Alphas), The Village’s newest resident and bartender. Taking care of the building and its residents are Village super Ron (Frankie Faison, Banshee) and his wife of 32-years, Patricia (Lorraine Toussaint, Into the Badlands), as well as neighborhood cop Ben (Jerod Haynes, Southside with You).

Based on tonight’s episode, the series looks like a solid “family” drama, with some emotional and unexpected twists. This isn’t your conventional family – this group of neighbors have formed their own family, coming together to help one another through the good times and bad. The Village seems like a perfect fit in the post This is Us time slot, as I suspect there will be a lot of crossover in the audience.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” Sarah, a single mom, navigates life with her teenage daughter; Ava is thrown into crisis when she’s arrested by ICE; Nick returns home from war to discover everything he’s left behind; Ron and Patricia work to keep the Village family intact.

Meet the residents of The Village tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording American Housewife, The Kids Are Alright, black-ish, The Rookie, This Is Us, MasterChef Junior, Mental Samurai, The Flash, and Miracle Workers.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/18/19

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, ABC kicks off the new 10-part legal thriller The Fix, from series creator/executive producer Marcia Clark (best known as the lead prosecutor for the O.J. Simpson trial). Eight years ago, LA district attorney Maya Travis (Robin Tunney, The Mentalist) suffered a devastating defeat in the courtroom when Hollywood star Sevvy Johnson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Lost, Oz) was acquitted for the double murder of his wife and her best friend, despite all the evidence seeming to prove otherwise. Afterwards, Maya abruptly left the public eye and headed to Washington to live a quieter life with cowboy Riv Allgood (Marc Blucas, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but she is still haunted by the faces of the two women she was unable get justice for.

Sevvy is once again in the news when his latest girlfriend is found murdered. Maya’s former partner, Matthew Collier (Adam Rayner, Tyrant), lures Maya back to the DA’s office to consult on the case and hopefully get justice this time around. Also working on the case are District Attorney Alan Wiest (Breckin Meyer, Franklin & Bash), CJ Emerson (Merrin Dungey, Big Little Lies, Alias), and the ambitious young deputy district attorney Loni Kampoor (Mouzam Makkar, Champions, The Exorcist). Sevvy once again claims his innocence and even has the backing of his deceased wife’s son Gabriel (Alex Saxon, The Fosters). However, that doesn’t stop him from re-hiring hot-shot defense attorney Ezra Wolf (Scott Cohen, The Americans), the man who got him acquitted the last time.

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. One can’t help but make comparisons to the O.J. trial and wonder if this is a way for Marcia Clark to get a little justice. Tonight’s episode does a great job of introducing all of the characters and their back stories and showing how both sides are starting to prepare their cases. It’s very interesting to see the manipulations and tricks being plotted by both sides. I expect that this one investigation/trial will play out over the course of the 10-episode season, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be other twists and personal drama along the way – tonight’s premiere features some unexpected turn of events. I am definitely on board to see how this all plays out and to see if Sevvy is actually innocent this time around or not.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” District Attorney Maya Travis returns to Los Angeles for another chance at justice after movie star Sevvy Johnson is suspected for another murder eight years later.

Meet all the players of this very public trial tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Resident, 9-1-1, and Arrow.
