Jenny’s Choice

If you were a big fan of the original Charmed like I was, you’re either really excited about or really dreading tonight’s premiere of the “reboot” or whatever they’re calling it. It’s a little confusing because it’s not the same characters, but it is the same premise, yet one trailer does mention one of the characters from the original…so who knows!

Sisters Mel (Melonie Diaz, Laughs Unlimited) and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery, Shades of Blue) are dealing with the tragic death of their mother when they suddenly learn they have an older sister named Macy (Madeleine Mantock, Into the Badlands, The Tomorrow People). Then comes an even bigger shock: they find out they’re witches and each suddenly exhibit impossible new abilities. They speak to Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans, Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, The Man in the High Castle), who explains about their mother and now the three of them being powerful witches and that he’s their “Whitelighter,” or advisor/guide. Together, the three of them must decide to accept their new destiny as the Charmed Ones and their new duty to hunt down the demons that walk among humans – including the one who killed their mother. Charlie Gillespie, Ellen Tamaki, and Ser’Darius Blain also star.

I can’t go into this show prepared to compare it to the original. That version (along with Prue, Piper, Phoebe, & Paige, not to mention Leo, Chris, & Darryl) will always hold a special place in my heart. So I have to watch and think of it as something new or else I know I won’t return for a second ep. What about you? Are you planning to watch?

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” after the tragic death of Mel and Maggie’s mother, the sisters are shocked to discover they have an older sister; the three sisters begin to exhibit strange new abilities.

Find out what abilities the sisters have tonight on The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Halloween Wars, NCIS: LA, & Haunted Gingerbread Showdown.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/12/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

Last week on Blue Bloods, we watched Jamie tackle his first day in his new position as a sergeant at a new precinct – which, from what we observed in the couple of scenes we got, needs a lot of help. His new boss told him to go in hard, with a firm hand, which is against Jamie’s natural instinct. He surprised me and did that well, by performing a spot uniform check. He’s already found a young officer who he (& we) can tell has the makings of a good cop, but when Jamie tried to get him to explain what was going on to cause the locker room fight, the guy balked, saying he couldn’t become a snitch. It seemed like he didn’t want to squeal because he needed to fit in, not because he just didn’t want to be a snitch. It’ll be fun seeing if/how Jamie can break down his walls. Oh, and one of my favorite parts of the episode was Sunday dinner. Eddie was still on her best behavior, trying to be sweet and nice and overly complimentary. So the family did something they do when someone new joins the family. They picked out a single topic (in this case, the wedding and everything to do with it) and started piling on about it until Eddie finally broke. She put her foot down and basically said she appreciated it, but it was her wedding and she would handle it and all they had to do was show up and smile. Her reaction when the others reacted was great.

Another part of the episode dealt with Erin bucking her supervisor, who she believes gave preferential treatment to a wealthy friend by not charging him with domestic violence. Fortunately, the DA agreed with her and was going to take care of it himself, rather than Erin having to do it. We’ll see how that goes! Meanwhile, Frank and Baker (who is probably my favorite character on the show – she cracks me up, the way she handles Frank) dealt with Kelly Peterson, the corporation counsel who handles civil complaints against the department, who came to him with a complaint from a sexual assault victim who said the SVU detective had treated her poorly. Frank was unsure of what to do, and Baker took it upon herself to go undercover, so to speak, as an assault victim. And it turned out, the SVU detective was indeed very insensitive. He didn’t do anything illegal, but he certainly needed to be out of SVU, which is what Frank decided, and in the end, Frank said he was starting basically an oversight-type committee, and he asked Baker to be on it. It was a sweet moment.

Finally, although Frank was unaware of it, Gormley went to Danny and Baez and asked them to look into threats against Frank. He believed it was a former detective who’d been fired after money went missing during drug cases, and he was right. In the end, though, the former detective wasn’t the one who went after “Frank” (who turned out to be an undercover detective/officer) with a gun. It was the guy’s adopted son who was trying to get revenge for his father. I felt bad for the former detective, who wised up in the end but felt responsible for his son’s actions.

On tonight’s episode, “Mind Games,” while investigating a case involving a woman who shot her husband while she was drunk, Danny’s instincts tell him there is more to the story. Also, Anthony ignores Erin’s orders to drop an assault case; Frank holds an emergency drill for his inner circle; and Jamie and Eddie navigate their changing work-life dynamic.

Find out what the rest of the story involves tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot, Last Man Standing, MacGyver, The Cool Kids, Hawaii Five-0, & Hell’s Kitchen.
