If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/13/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, NBC airs the 2-hour season (possibly series) finale of Timeless. Last week, Lucy, Rufus, Wyatt, and Jiya traveled back to 1981, the day of the attempted assassination of President Reagan. They assumed Rittenhouse’s target was the president but were surprised to learn that they were trying to kill a young Agent Christopher so that she wouldn’t be around in the future to form the Time Team. During the mission, the team discovered that Rittenhouse was forcing people to act as sleeper agents, sending them into the past, to await activation for unknown missions. Meanwhile, in the bunker, Mason & Christopher remained suspicious of Jessica’s return and tried to figure out the reason Rittenhouse saved her. Once the crew returned, Wyatt got a double-whammy of surprises. Jessica revealed that her brother Kevin was still alive – but in Wyatt’s reality, Kevin had died of leukemia when he was three. And then Jessica also revealed that she was pregnant.

Why did Rittenhouse save Jessica, and is she working for them? Why did they save her brother, and what does he have to do with all of this? Can Jiya’s visions of the future be changed, or is Rufus doomed to die in the Wild West? (It seems easy enough for him to just avoid ever going back to that time period!) At the time I’m writing this, NBC still has not announced the fate of the series, even though the network will be announcing its Fall schedule on Monday morning. Tonight’s finale is a fun, exciting, and action-packed 2 hours. This show has found a great mix of action, drama and humor, and I hope we get to see more. Unfortunately, the season ends in an amazing cliffhanger, so I really hope we get a third season to see what happens next. Fingers crossed that at the time you are reading this, the series has already been renewed for a third season!

On tonight’s episode, “The General; Chinatown,” the team partners with Harriet Tubman to thwart Rittenhouse’s plan to alter the outcome of the Civil War; Jiya escapes from Rittenhouse but is stranded in 1888 with no way home; the fractured team goes back to save her.

See how the season (series?) ends tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Deception, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, Fear the Walking Dead, Killing Eve, Worst Cooks in America, Trust, Westworld, and Silicon Valley.

Saturday on TV – 5/12/18

Saturday is the season finale of The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.

There are two series premieres tonight. THe first is the premiere of Abuse of Power on Oxygen at 7/6c. Hosted by esteemed television journalist Lauren Sivan, each episode will examine the twisted and true stories where people in positions of power and prominence took advantage of their authority to commit heinous acts of crime, all stemming from their control and unyielding power. Through emotional testimonials, never-before-seen interviews and dramatic reenactments, Abuse of Power will reveal the sordid details of some of the most notorious cases of exploitation and highlight gripping firsthand accounts from the victims and their families who will stop at nothing to get the justice they deserve.

The second is the series premiere of Patrick Melrose on Showtime at 9/8c. Get ready for the lowdown on the British upper class. This five-part limited series based on the acclaimed novels by Edward St. Aubyn tracks Patrick from a privileged but deeply traumatic childhood in the South of France through severe substance abuse in his twenties in New York and, ultimately, toward recovery back home in Britain. At once harrowing and hilarious, Oscar® nominee and Emmy® winner Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the troubled titular character.

Finally, tonight is a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host Amy Schumer and musical guest Kacey Musgraves.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/11/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

I hate story lines that deal with a woman who steals a baby after she loses her own. I mean, they’re always so sad. And Blue Bloods did a great job putting Jamie and Eddie up after Alice, a woman who did just that. You couldn’t help but feel bad for her, even while you knew she was in the wrong. Then there was the whole privacy laws on the side of the terrorists when the NYPD couldn’t get into the bomber’s phone… Ugh. That stuff ticks me off. The best part of that story was when Kelly Peterson was talking to Frank, and she said there was no talking to him when he was like that. Her “impression” of him was hysterical. “Back in my day…” haha And finally the mob guy who gave the DA’s office some info in order to get his son some leniency in the charges against him… This might have been one of only a couple of times that Danny and Anthony have ever agreed on something. Normally those two are at each other’s throats and coming at problems from completely opposite directions. Of course, this time they were right, given the fact that the mob guy actually set up the hit on the family himself in order to be able to report it to Erin.

Tonight’s the season finale, and what a season it’s been. Danny & his sons dealt with the loss of their wife/mother. Jamie dealt with Eddie being shot and realized yet again his feelings for her, as well as his dad trying to get him to apply for the sergeant’s exam. Frank said goodbye to both the mayor who’d become his friend and the temporary mayor who was getting less and less of a pain in his butt at time went by. Erin has been considering (or already started?) dating her ex-husband. Nicky dealt with sexual harassment/assault from her boss, which is quite relevant with what’s going on in the real world right now. So it’s been a big season for everyone.

On tonight’s episode, “My Aim is True,” when a series of drive-by murders occur after six wrongly convicted men are released from prison, Danny and Baez wonder if they were orchestrated by the men as an act of revenge. Also, Frank combats the guilt he feels about these innocent men unfairly serving nine years in prison, and Jamie and Eddie find themselves in a life-threatening situation.

To see how the season ends, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot & Hawaii Five-0.
