If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/6/17

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

One of the shows I’ve most been looking forward to is APB, which premieres tonight on FOX. Justin Kirk (Tyrant, Weeds) stars as tech billionaire Gideon Reeves. When he witnesses his best friend’s murder and learns that the police may never be able to find the killer, he decides to fix it the only way he knows how: using technology. From fancy new cop cars to a drone and much, much more, he’ll do a complete overhaul on how the police in the 13th District fight crime. Natalie Martinez (Kingdom, Under the Dome) stars as Detective Theresa Murphy, who has a great chemistry with Reeves, although it takes her a bit to warm up to him. Ernie Hudson is great as the precinct’s captain, Ned Conrad. And Nestor Serrano (The Last Ship, Revenge) plays Mayor Michael Salgado, a character I think I’ll love to hate.

I’ve seen the pilot and really enjoyed it. Reeves is quite cocky, very full of himself, but Justin Kirk plays him brilliantly when his friend is killed. I loved the tech they used in this first episode alone, so I can’t wait to see more! One thing I loved is that I don’t think they used any tech that I couldn’t see actually being used in real life…

On tonight’s episode, “Hard Reset,” after witnessing the murder of his best friend, tech billionaire Gideon Reeves takes charge of a troubled Chicago police district and reboots it using technical innovation; Gideon launches the APB app, but things don’t go quite as planned.

Check out the new show tonight on FOX at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 24: Legacy, Kevin Can Wait, Kids Baking Championship, Man With a Plan, Superior Donuts, 2 Broke Girls, & Scorpion.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/5/17

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, after the Super Bowl, FOX kicks off the first half of the 2-night premiere of the spin-off series, 24: Legacy. Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins, The Walking Dead) is an ex-Army Ranger turned war hero who led a team of six men on a successful raid of Bin Khalid’s compound, taking out the ruthless terrorist. However, Eric soon discovers that Bin Khalid’s men are now in the U.S., hunting down his team of Army Rangers, looking for evidence of their planned terrorist attack on U.S. soil they believe was stolen by the soldiers. The only person Eric can trust is Rebecca Donovan (Miranda Otto, Homeland), the former national director of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), who recently stepped down from her position to help her husband, Senator John Donovan (Jimmy Smits, NYPD Blue), with his presidential campaign. Rebecca doesn’t know who leaked the information about the identity of the Army Rangers and is unsure if anyone at CTU can be trusted with this information – even her hand-picked replacement, Keith Mullins (Teddy Sears, Masters of Sex, The Flash). Can Eric and Rebecca figure out the details of the planned attack, who is involved, and stop it before it’s too late? The clock is ticking.

This follow-up series feels very much like the original, following the same formula that made the original series so great – a man on his own trying to stop a major threat, political intrigue, an unknown mole in CTU, etc., all in real-time. Tonight’s opener sets up the characters and lays out several different storylines that will ultimately come together over the next few weeks and provides an action-packed adrenaline rush. I really enjoy how they make use of handheld cameras to really bring the viewer into the action. As I watched the show, I never once felt that it was missing Jack Bauer – this cast does an excellent job at quickly providing characters that you feel invested in. However, in future episodes, fans of the original series will see some familiar faces pop up. I look forward to seeing what other exciting developments are in store.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I had a chance to speak with the cast and producers of the series. You can check out my video interviews with the cast and producers at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s first half of the 2-night premiere, “12: 00 Noon – 1: 00 PM,” a military hero returns to the U.S. but seeks help from CTU when a plan for one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil surfaces.

To see how the latest 24 hours starts tonight on FOX at 10:30/9:30c. (Or after the Super Bowl, so time may be off slightly!)

I’ll also be watching/recording Worst Cooks in America.

Recap/Review – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – 2/3/17

This week’s episode – and season finale – of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (titled: “Can Josh Take a Leak of Faith?”) is all about preparations for the not-so-long-awaited wedding and some revelations about Rebecca’s past.

Recap:

Rebecca is in a great mood, as she is getting married soon and her father, Silas, has come to witness the happy union. When Paula comes over to give Rebecca her DIY veil, they break into a heavy metal number called “What a Rush To Be A Bride.” Josh is also excited – but for the wedding to be over. He wants to start his life with Rebecca, and she tries to convince him that weddings are an important step too. When she puts on the veil and looks into the mirror, she speaks aloud, saying this is what happy looks like.

We’re thrown into a flashback from seven years ago, when she’s wearing a veil and standing before a guy named Robert. In her memory, she speaks to him, but actually she is living this moment in the present time, where Rebecca calls Josh “Robert.” He questions this, and she makes up a story about a new client whose last name is Robert and has a case exactly like Erin Brockovich.
