codeblack1125smallSome would say I’m predictable in my television choices because lately they consist of procedurals and medical dramas. However, if loving shows like Code Black makes me mundane, then I’m okay with that. Honestly, I have fallen in love with this show. It is a very well-written, intriguing drama that leaves me wanting more every week.

Last week, we saw Mario struggle with the reality that he got stuck with a needle that had been in a patient with HIV. He panicked but also pretended he’d be fine. Angus figured it out in the end and helped Mario deal with it. Christa was put in the pit to deal with all the patients, but she needed Neal’s help, which is apparently awkward because something happened the night before on their date – which I hope means that they are going to end up together in an actual couple, not just colleagues who have a sexual chemistry. I’m really excited to see where the show takes us, and you should be too, so don’t forget to watch.

On tonight’s episode, “The Son Rises,” when the lead actor of the musical “The Lion King” tour arrives at Angels Memorial with a throat infection, Leanne gives him a diagnosis that puts both his career and life in jeopardy. Also, the doctors and the cast of “The Lion King” help a 17-year-old boy deal with the difficult decision of taking his father off life support.

To see if they can help the actor before he loses his dream career, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Rosewood, Empire, and Cutthroat Kitchen.

chicagopd1028smallI am loving each and every episode of Chicago PD this season. Last week, Voight and the squad went after the man who’d tried to blow him and his family up and who was going after everyone who’d been on Voight’s team when he illegally got him sent to prison years before. That isn’t to say the guy was innocent, just that Voight lied about something and that’s what ultimately put the guy away. The guy was good… He manipulated things to pit Voight against Olinsky and make Voight doubt Al’s claim that he wasn’t the one who stole the guy’s money. In the end, the theft was an inside job, that man turned on his boss, and our team captured both men. Meanwhile, Al sent off the paternity test, but his wife (ex? I’m never clear about that. LOL) basically gave him an ultimatum.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Al and his daughter (or is she?) and his family. And now that Voight’s basically given Jay his permission, I can’t wait to see things get hotter between him and Erin. And finally, Voight’s problem about lying during the case years ago hasn’t gone away, so will this be the end of Voight? Surely not. Wouldn’t be the same show without him. And you gotta admit he’s really cleaned up his act since the beginning of the show. He still skirts the line, but I don’t consider him a true dirty cop anymore, so that’ll be fun to see how that plays out. Tonight is a 2-hour episode (2 episodes, but most places, including my DVR, show it as a single 2-hour block), and I can’t wait.

On tonight’s episode, “Climbing Into Bed/You Never Know Who’s Who,” after a botched undercover job, Ruzek is under scrutiny by the new Street Deputy Crowley (guest star Barbara Eve Harris), who will determine his future with the unit. A suspicious person call turns into a murder investigation when Burgess and her temporary partner Price (guest star Travis A. Knight) discover the body of a dead man in an SUV. After Mouse identifies the victim as the owner of a security company, the unit soon realizes there might be more to his story. Halstead and Lindsay take a step forward in their relationship.

Find out what happens with Ruzek and between Jay and Erin tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing World Series, Hellevator, The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, black-ish, Code Black, & Mystery Diners.

thegoldbergs1014smallThis season of The Goldbergs is off to a great start. It always amazes me how many of the crazy events we see on the show happened in real life to series creator Adam Goldberg – and that he’s willing to show us the awkward video proof at the end of the episode! Last week, Adam wanted a robot, but his father refused to buy one. So he and Murray tried building one from junk they found around the house, but this led to a big fight between them, and in the end Murray gave in and bought Adam the robot. Meanwhile, Barry accidentally taped over the video of his 5th birthday but made his mother believe she was one who did it. Beverly was crushed and devastated and was constantly blaming herself for the mistake. The guilt (and pressure from his siblings) ultimately got to be too much for Barry and he confessed the truth.

The Goldbergs are just a really fun family to hang out with every week, and watching their exploits each Wednesday night always gives me a great sense of nostalgia for my own childhood. I love the 80s throwback setting and pop culture references, the ridiculous situations, and the heartfelt family moments. I’m so glad this show (and the rest of my ABC Wednesday comedy lineup) are back!

On tonight’s episode, “I Caddyshacked the Pool,” Adam, who’s embarrassed by his changing body, is desperate to get out of swimming in gym class; and Erica tries to create her identity at school by starting a club that, to her dismay, Barry joins.

Find out if Adam can get out of swimming tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Code Black, The Middle, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, American Horror Story: Hotel, The League, You’re the Worst, Worst Cooks in America, and Moonbeam City.

codeblack930smallThere are a lot of police procedurals on TV currently and have been for years. There’ve been a good number of medical dramas as well, although there aren’t a ton of those on right now. For me, I’ve been missing a really good medical drama (that hasn’t become totally a soap opera) since ER went off the air. I have hopes that tonight’s premiere of Code Black will fill that whole in my TV lineup.

Based on the award-winning documentary by Ryan McGarry, it’s centered around the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation – Angels Memorial in Los Angeles –where the staggering number of patients can outweigh the limited resources available to the extraordinary doctors and nurses – creating a condition known as Code Black. Marcia Gay Harden plays Residency Director Dr. Leanne Rorish, known for performing high-risk procedures in Center Stage, the trauma area reserved for the most critical cases. Her four new first-year residents are Christa Lorenson (Bonnie Somerville), Malaya Pineda (Melanie Kannokada), Mario Savetti (Benjamin Hollingsworth), and Angus Leighton (Harry M. Ford). Leanne’s confidante, Jesse Sallander (Luis Guzman), is an amiable seen-it-all senior nurse who manages the residents. Raza Jaffrey plays Dr. Neal Hudson, an excellent physician who sometimes disagrees with Leanne’s “cowboy” approach, while William Allen Young plays Dr. Rollie Guthrie, the energetic, longest-serving attending in the ER.

I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and it’s really a great hour of television. You’ll be missing out if you don’t at least check it out.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Residency Director Dr. Leanne Rorish puts her four new first-year residents to work immediately on their first day at Angels Memorial Hospital, in the busiest ER in the nation.

Meet the new doctors tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll be watching/DVRing The Mysteries of Laura, Rosewood, Steampunk’d, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Worst Cooks in America, black-ish, & Chicago PD.
