killjoyssmallI’m so excited about the Killjoys premiere on Syfy tonight – probably the most excited I’ve been about a new Syfy show in a while. Starring Aaron Ashmore (who was great on Warehouse 13, Hannah John-Kamen (Black Mirror), and Luke Macfarlane (Brothers & Sisters), the show follows a trio of interplanetary bounty hunters throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multi-planetary class war. John Jaqobis (Ashmore), Dutch (John-Kamen), & D’avin (Macfarlane) like to play hard and work hard, so I’m hoping that makes for a very entertaining show! If we’re lucky, we’ll get some of the same vibes of “team” and “family” and “fun” that we got from Warehouse 13.

On tonight’s episode, “Bangarang,” Dutch and John are racing against time and a competing Killjoy in an attempt to clear their names and save D’avin’s life.

See if Dutch and John are able to accomplish what they set out to do tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Whose Line Is It Anyway? & American Diner Revival.

darkmattersmallI’m cautiously excited about tonight’s series premiere of Dark Matter because in some ways, it reminds me about Firefly, although it might be a little darker, a little heavier. (Next week’s premiere, Killjoys, also reminds me of Firefly, and it’s definitely lighter than this one.) Crew members of an abandoned spaceship are woken from stasis…but none of them remember who they are or how they got there. They have to work together to survive, overcoming threats, vengeance, betrayal, and hidden secrets. Based on the graphic novel Dark Matter (both it and the show were created by Joseph Mallozzi & Paul Mullie), it stars Melissa O’Neil (Broadway’s Les Miserables), Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), Alex Mallari Jr. (Robocop), Jodelle Ferland (Twilight), Roger Cross (The Strain), & Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl).

On tonight’s episode, “Episode 1,” the crew of a derelict spaceship awakens from stasis with no memories of who they are.

Check out the premiere tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Love, Lust or Run, & American Diner Revival.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/28/14

Since Friday is a light night of TV, these are the last recommendations we’ll be making before the long Labor Day weekend starts (at least for those of in the United States). If you haven’t already cleared your DVR backlog, this is the weekend to do so because the onslaught of fall TV will be here before you know it, and you will need more free recording space than you can find! 🙂

defiance828smallTonight, the second season of Defiance comes to a close with back-to-back episodes. Last week, Deidre (aka “Treasure Doll”) was murdered. With Nolan off looking for Irisa, Amanda was in charge of the investigation, and Alak was her prime suspect. Stahma assumed the murderer was either Alak or her husband, so she arranged for someone else to confess to the crime, but Amanda wasn’t falling for that. In the end, we discovered that it was Alak’s wife Christie who killed this woman who was trying to steal her husband—and when Stahma realized this, she couldn’t have looked prouder. Meanwhile, Nolan and Tommy tried to grab Irisa and bring her back, but the thing possessing her fought back, knocking out Nolan and stabbing Tommy.

Will Nolan be able to save Tommy before he bleeds to death? Can they remove whatever is possessing Irisa and the others and stop the Irzu’s plan to terraform the Earth? And will Amanda finally get even with Stahma for what she did to her sister? It should be an exciting two hours!

On tonight’s first episode, “All Things Must Pass,” Nolan races to save Tommy’s life and stop Irisa; tensions between Amanda and Stahma lead to a showdown. And then in “I Almost Prayed,” season 2 comes to a close with Nolan fighting both the Earth Republic and old acquaintances to stop Irisa’s destructive plan from becoming a reality. He’s also determined to save his adoptive daughter from the Kaziri forces that have been possessing her before his own friends attempt to kill her. Linda Hamilton guest stars.

See if Nolan can win the fight and how the showdown with Amanda and Stahma turns out tonight on Syfy at 8/7c & 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, The Quest, Welcome to Sweden, Married, and You’re the Worst.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/26/14

I can’t believe that San Diego Comic-Con is just 4 weeks away—I have so much to get done before then, and the flood of summer TV shows this week has kept me really busy. This evening’s primetime lineup is a bit lighter than the fast few days, so either catch up on your DVR backlog from earlier in the week, or check out these recommendations Megan and I have for you tonight.

defiance626smallLast week, Defiance returned for the start of its second season, and things were in a bit of a dark place 9 months after the season 1 finale. Alak has taken over running the family “business” while his father is in the prison camp (along with Doc Yewll). Meanwhile, Rafe and the other mine workers aren’t happy about the nationalization of the mines, which had led to them being overworked and underpaid. Elsewhere, Nolan tracked down his lost daughter, Irisa, though something doesn’t seem quite right with her, as she is having visions of herself killing her father. And Amanda decided to accept the Chief of Staff position from the Mayor, but is unaware that he is obsessed with her and has been spying on her using a hidden camera in her bedroom.

What is going on with Irisa? Will Datak get out of prison soon and reclaim his role as the head of the family? Is Kenya dead, and if so, how will Amanda react when she finds out the truth? It looks like this will be a darker, but still very interesting season, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

On tonight’s episode, “In My Secret Life,” Irisa is arrested upon her return to Defiance, but Nolan can arrange her release by capturing those responsible for an explosion that nearly killed Mayor Pottinger. Meanwhile, Stahma decides the only way to stay in control of her family’s criminal enterprises is by ensuring that Datak stays behind bars.

See if Nolan can get the bad guys so Irisa goes free tonight on Syfy at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Rookie Blue, Undateable, Defiance, and Dominion.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/8/13

Geez louise! We’re already into the second week of July! A friend told me Sunday night that we had like 170 days until Christmas. Insane, I tell ya. Time flies, whether your having fun or not. LOL So to help us pass the time—since it’s flying anyway!—here’s what we recommend for tonight’s TV. 🙂

kingmaxwell78smallI am still loving King & Maxwell on TNT. Last week’s case of the kidnapped little boy was great. We got to watch Sean & Michelle work to solve the case, putting together clues (with the help of the fantastic Edgar) to figure out that the mother used to be an art thief, and her old partner was out of jail and holding her son hostage in exchange for her stealing a painting from the museum she worked at. The way they set up the bad guy at the end was great, although how they got out of the car with no one noticing, I dunno. Also, Edgar continued looking into the video of the day Sean’s political candidate was shot and killed…and he thinks he’s come up with something that proves Sean was set up to be blinded so the guy could be shot. That’s how I’m taking it, anyway. Hopefully we’ll learn more about it tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “Loved Ones,” when the son of one of Sean’s old associates commits suicide, suspicions regarding his death arise. King and Maxwell’s investigation opens up an unexpected case involving a killer targeting the family members of former Secret Service agents.

See if Michelle can keep Sean safe while they find the bad guy tonight on TNT at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, The Glades, Major Crimes, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, Longmire, Siberia, Under the Dome, & Warehouse 13.
