Tonight, Showtime’s comedy Episodes, which stars Matt LeBlanc (Friends) playing a heightened version of himself, finally returns to kick off the show’s fifth/final season. The new season picks up a few months later. Matt has been hosting the crazy game show “The Box,” which has become a major hit, but he’d rather be acting. Despite the success of the show, producer Merc (John Pankow) is still bitter with Matt for sleeping with his wife. Meanwhile, husband-and-wife writing team Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig) had their show taken away and are now begrudgingly working for irritating new showrunner/Sean’s former partner Tim (Bruce Mackinnon). Meanwhile, Carol (Kathleen Rose Perkins) is living like a hermit, jobless and disgraced after being fired.

I had forgotten how much I missed this show until I checked out the first few episodes of the season. I absolutely love these characters and this world. The series is so much fun, poking fun at the inner-workings of the TV business. However, as the season opens, some of the character dynamics of the past seasons seem to be missing — the storylines remain separate for a few episodes, especially with Matt working separately from the Lincolns and Carol not really part of the group. However, I am still thoroughly enjoying this series and look forward to seeing how it all comes to an end this season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Episode 501,” Matt’s gameshow is a hit, but he must also have daily contact with Merc Lapidus; Sean and Beverly work for Sean’s ex-partner; Carol goes into a tailspin.

Don’t miss the season premiere tonight on Showtime at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The $100,000 Pyramid, Big Brother, The Great Food Truck Race, The Strain, The Last Ship, and Game of Thrones.

thelibrarians111smallI’m really loving The Librarians. Last week was a lot of fun when the team realized that fairy tales were coming to life…only, these weren’t your normal fairy tales. They were being created and manipulated by an old man (a REAL librarian) who, by “reading” from a magical book, was draining the life out of a little girl. The best part of the episode was when Ezekiel finally got the book from the guy, gave it to the little girl, and told her to make up her own stories. She made Eve a ninja princess, Jake a robot with awesome vision, and Cassandra got turned into Merlin in disguise. And the high school football team as the wolves? Pretty funny.

There are only two weeks left to this adorably fun show, since TNT is airing double episodes tonight and next week. It hasn’t been renewed yet…but it has to be, doesn’t it? I would hate to see them cancel it. It’s been too much fun to watch.

On tonight’s first episode, “And the Rule of Three,” when a group of competitive high school students start undercutting each other with witchcraft, the Librarians have to intercede before disaster destroys them all. Then on the second episode, “And the Heart of Darkness,” the Librarians encounter the House behind the legend of ALL haunted houses and set out to destroy it.

See how the Librarians defeat witchcraft and a haunted house tonight on TNT at 8/7c & 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Galavant, Guy’s Grocery Games, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Worst Cooks in America, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/1/12

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians! There are so many reasons why we should be proud to be Canadians—but one of the many is Ryan Gosling. 🙂 Of course, there is also our healthcare, our equality, maple syrup, Canadian bacon, and poutine. Not to mention Rookie Blue and Flashpoint… Oh, and Dill Pickle chips, eh? There’s no doubt aboot it, Canada is amazing, and I am truly proud to say, “Happy birthday, Canada! There’s nowhere I’d rather live.” Enough of my Canadian pride for now. Let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

True Blood is one of those shows that has no boundaries—at all. They have taken us on a journey through so many subjects that other shows would pee their pants just thinking about. Last week’s episode took us on a trip down memory lane with Pam and how Eric became her maker. The sad, lonely life of a madam—but he rescued her and showed her kindness. That’s the thing about Eric. He does have a good heart…just buried in a vicious, masculine, vampire body. (Did reading that sentence make you flush as much as it made me while writing it? NO? Never mind, then.)

We also saw Steve Newlin as the new Nan Flanagan, Jason confronted the teacher that took advantage of him when he was younger, and Tara hid in the freezer at Merlotte’s for a while. In the end, Tara fled Merlotte’s after being confronted by Sookie and tried to off herself in a tanning bed (watch out, those buggers will kill ya.). Throughout the episode, we learned that pictures of Andy’s ass ended up on Facebook thanks to Holly’s kids—seriously, people… Be careful of who has naked pictures of you. You never know where they’re going to end up. 😉 Overall, it was a good episode with a few moments that made me gasp—but it wouldn’t be True Blood without those.

On tonight’s episode, “We’ll Meet Again,” Eric and Bill are afraid for their lives; Sookie opens up to Alcide; Lafayette endagers Sookie; Roman and Salome search for a traitor in the council; Andy and Jason go to a party; Terry has a flashback; and Sookie drowns her sorrows.

To see how many more boundaries this show can shatter, tune in to HBO at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of True Blood @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Great Escape, The Glades, Drop Dead Diva, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition, and Cupcake Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/16/11

Welcome to a new, and tremendously busy, week of TV! This week, our guest poster is another returnee – so everyone welcome Jason, theTVaholic! – Jenny

Hi, My name is Jason and I’m @theTVaholic. The ladies of TVisMyPacifier have asked me back to attempt some remote control guidance this week. I had fun last time, even though I find it quite difficult to narrow down the nightly choices to a single selection. And this week’s a particularly big one to attempt such a feat, as most shows will be back with new episodes and many others will be debuting. You can always find me over at TVaholic.com providing daily digests of what is worth watching each night. Now, let us take a look at Sunday.

Jason’s Choice

Showtime has a great Sunday night lineup. This season of Californication is really good, as are the first three episodes of Shameless. But, my pick tonight is the show that plays between them: Episodes. I believe it was Adam’s pick last week as well. I love this show, but it may not be for everybody. It apparently suits my comedy tastes. Once I watched last week’s premiere episode, I didn’t want to stop. Especially since tonight’s episode introduces Matt LeBlanc, playing an extreme version of himself (read: he’s kind of an ass). But his introduction provides lots for Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan to react to, which is one of my favorite things about the show. They have great comic timing and can deliver just the right reaction to the Hollywood shenanigans that are going on around them.

Greig and Mangan play a married British writing duo that just has one thing after another go wrong, as they attempt to adapt their hit British TV series for an American TV network. This is another thing I loved about the show. The comic look behind the scenes of how many a foreign hit show remake can turn into the junk that litters our television screens way too often.
