If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/16/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice #1

12monkeys116smallTonight, Syfy kicks off 12 Monkeys, inspired by the cult 1995 film of the same name, about a man from a post-apocalyptic future who travels back in time to our present try to stop the spreading of a deadly plague that will ultimately wipe out almost 94% of the world’s population. The main cast includes Aaron Stanford (Nikita) as James Cole, the man trying to save the planet; Amanda Schull (Suits, One Tree Hill) as virologist Dr. Cassandra Railly who reluctantly aids Cole in his mission; Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Oz) as Ramse, Cole’s best friend; and Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages) as Aaron Marker, Cassandra’s boyfriend and political insider. The recurring cast also includes Emily Hampshire (Rookie Blue), Barbara Sukowa, Tom Noonan (Manhunter), Zeljko Ivanek (Madam Secretary, Damages), and Todd Stashwick (Warehouse 13, The Originals).

While I wasn’t a huge fan of the original film, I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. While the general premise is the same as the film, the series sets up a larger world, mystery, and conspiracy. It looks like the show is going to be a fun action-adventure thrill ride with lots of time-whimey things to try to wrap your head around. Things are constantly jumping backwards and forwards in time, events are occurring in the past before they are actually known in the present, and so on. So you are constantly piecing together the puzzle of a story and working things out at the same time as the characters are. I can’t wait to see how more of this story unfolds!

Syfy held panels for 12 Monkeys and Helix at the Syfy Digital Press Tour a few months ago. You can find my videos and coverage at NoRerruns.net.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, a man from a decimated future travels to present day on a mission to locate and eliminate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually all but annihilate the human race.

Jump back in time with this new series tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/28/14

It’s been a hectic and busy week around my house, with family visiting and celebrating Pherson’s third birthday. I cannot believe that my baby boy is 3 already. It seems like just yesterday that he was a chubby baby I was rocking to sleep, and now he’s a mischievous little boy who can ride a bike! Let’s see what’s on TV tonight to amuse you and help keep my mind off my baby not being a baby anymore.

hartofdixie328smallHart of Dixie came back with a mess of relationship drama last week, and what a mess it was. Lemon returned, and we found out she’d been dating two guys while she was at her grandma’s, but that all blew up in her face when the two men found out about each other. Don’t be too upset, because both Carter and Enrique want to keep Lemon, so they are going to continue to try to win her affection and see who ends up with her as a prize. Zoe tries hard to please her mom, but in the end, she can’t run a smear campaign against Brick because the town is her family and she doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Her mom heads home, but at least they parted on good terms. I’m not sure how I feel about Zoe and Joel still being together, but at least he’s trying, and she needs to focus more on figuring out her career and less time searching for acceptance from her mom.

On tonight’s episode, “Ring of Fire,” Joel hires dubious workers for his renovations, resulting in an accident on the site; Lavon struggles to draw ticket sales for a renaissance fair.

To see what happens during the renovations, tune in to The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Say Yes to the Dress, Enlisted, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, and Hannibal.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/31/14

This crazy week is finally done, and I am really looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow, my family and I are going to watch dog sled races at a winter festival in town—yes, we’re Canadian, and we really do have dog sled races. While I sit here and get everyone’s snow gear ready, I’m going to be watching some fantastic TV, so let’s see what’s on.

bones131smallI was very happy to hear that Bones has been renewed for a 10th season—much deserved, especially after this season. There have been so many character-driven stories this season, and I’m loving how much Sweets has been involved. Last week, we watched as he went undercover at a chess club to find a killer. Turns out that our favorite FBI psychiatrist was once an expert chess player, and he used his skill to catch the young man who killed one of the national champions. The guy killed the victim because he didn’t want him to marry his mom. I thought it was really great how Sweets figured out he did it because he wouldn’t sacrifice his queen during the game. Excellent writing.

On tonight’s episode, “The Heiress in the Hill,” the team investigates the murder of a female kidnapping victim, whose remains were found buried at a park.

To see if the team can catch this murderer, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

Early this week, I was part of the TVx3 Podcast with Jason (@theTVaholic) & Sam (@SamMaggs). We talked recent TV news, then chatted about episodes of Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, Bitten, Person of Interest, Grimm, and Helix. You can listen to it here.

Jason does these podcasts once a week with different hosts joining him, and this was my second time. It was just as much fun as the first time! Kyle & Megan have both done it several times. You can check out the TV times Three site here, with all the previous podcasts. Be sure to check them out! TV times Three.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/10/14

I am so glad it’s Friday! What a long and craptastic week I have had. Unfortunately, I have a tendency of procrastination when it comes to getting to the doctor for myself… Lesson learned this time, because that cold and upset stomach I was battling was actually double pneumonia and a kidney infection. I hate being sick, because it messes with my usual schedule, but thankfully, I am on the mend and getting back into routine. While I spend my Friday night resting, let’s see what we all should be watching.

enlisted110smallI have been waiting for Enlisted to premiere on FOX since I first heard about the pilot last year, so I am estatic that it’s finally here. What could be wrong with a comedy that has Geoff Stults (The Finder, October Road), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars), and Parker Young (Suburgatory) playing brothers? Nothing, my friends. Absolutely nothing!

This show is a single-camera comedy that follows the three brothers on a small Florida Army post and the mixture of people that they come in contact with. Pete (Stults) is the older brother that made a mistake overseas and got sent back to Fort McGee; Derrick (Lowell) is the sarcastic troublemaker who doesn’t really care about being a soldier; and then there’s Randy (Young), who loves being a soldier but isn’t always successful at it. The boys all serve in the Rear Detachment (Rear D) unit, made up of the soldiers left behind when everyone else is deployed. They help with the upkeep of the base, but their main job is to help the families of the deployed soldiers. It doesn’t sound super exciting or important, but it will end up bringing these brothers back together again after years of being distant.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” between Sergeant Pete Hill’s renegade nature and the stress of constant bombing in Afghanistan, where he led over a hundred raids, he punches out an arrogant officer and is sent Stateside. Pete was on a path for a huge military career until that one mistake. He’s assigned to the low-maintenance Florida base, where very few soldiers have seen battle. It’s also where his two brothers, Derrick and Randy, are stationed.

To see how these brothers work it out tune into FOX at 9:30/8:30c

I’ll also be watching Hawaii Five-0, Bones, Blue Bloods, Grimm and Dracula.
