Tonight, NBC is airing a special preview of the new game show The Wall, from executive producer LeBron James. The series is hosted by actor/comedian Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead, @midnight), and each week he offers pairs of contestants the chance to take home over $12 million dollars in cash and prizes! All that stands between these pairs of contestants and the life-altering prizes is a massive four-story wall. As the contestants get answers correct, green balls fall from the giant Plinko-like wall, and the dollar amounts listed in the slots the balls land in get added to the contestants’ total. However, as they get questions wrong, red balls fall into amounts that are deducted from their potential winnings. As the game progresses, things get even more exciting as the contestants are no longer able to communicate with their partners and their faith in one another is put to the test. Not only do the contestants need the skill to answer the questions correctly, but they also need a bit of luck, hoping the balls falling from atop the wall bounce into the right slots.

It seems like the show is really going to push the emotional stories of the contestants and the way their lives are going to be changed by the money they could win. I really enjoy Chris Hardwick’s podcast and other hosting duties, and I think he will add a lot of humor and fun to this show. I look forward to checking out tonight’s special preview.

On tonight’s premiere, “John and Angel,” two-person teams answer questions for cash and prizes.

Check out the fun new game show tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Man With a Plan, The Wall, and People of Earth.

Recap/Review – This Is Us – 12/6/16

This week’s episode of This Is Us (titled: “Last Christmas”) is another emotionally packed episodes that begs the question, “Can something bad happen on Christmas Eve?”

Recap:

Throughout this episode, mortality comes into play. In the past timeline, Kate needs an appendectomy, and while at the hospital, the Pearson family runs into Dr. K, who was in a car accident. Kate is terrified of going into surgery, and Rebecca rips a piece of Christmas decoration from a garland, saying it’s a magical Christmas branch, and tells her daughter that nothing bad happens on Christmas Eve. While Kate is in surgery, Rebecca and Jack visit with Dr. K. The doctor informs them that he isn’t going to make it due to internal bleeding. At this point, Randall comes into the room after spending his own money to purchase a snowglobe for Dr. K. Dr. K accepts the gift and tells Randall that if he ever has a chance to do good for someone else, he should.

In the present, Kevin and Sloane are arguing, and we realize that Oliva hasn’t shown up for work and the play is cancelled. Sloane forces Kevin to come to Hanukkah dinner with her to make it up to her (and the fact that she told her mother she was dating the Manny). At dinner, Sloane is the starving artist according to her family yet gives a fantastic retelling of the Hanukkah story to her nieces. Kevin tells her that she should play the lead in the show and he will pay for the production with his own money.

I’ve seen a good handful of people claiming they won’t watch Criminal Minds anymore since Hotch left, but I think they’re missing out. I still say now, after being here a few episodes, Adam Rodriguez is a great fit for the team/show. Like last week, when he was part of the group who teased Garcia about being the last to know something instead of the first. That something had to do with Tara (remember… TAR-uh, not TEHR-uh), who was the focus of last week’s episode, since a strange man showed up to meet her, acting like he was her brother. Turned out he was one of the multiple-personality-disorder patients and Mr. Scratch had brainwashed him into believing he really was Tara’s brother. Thankfully the team was able to find her real brother and save him (barely!) and also get some help for the poor guy who’d been brainwashed.

Even after the addition of Luke Alvez a few weeks ago, the show/team is welcoming a new cast member tonight. Damon Gupton (who you might recognize from shows like Goliath, Bates Motel, The Player, Empire, and Prime Suspect) is joining the team. To me, he seems a bit older than the others (he’s not… I mean, technically I think he’s Kirsten Vangsness’s age, so only a few years older than AJ Cook. But from everything I’ve seen him in, he “feels” older, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in with the team. Plus, his character is a seasoned FBI profiler, so will he fit in as smoothly as Rossi did? I’m very interested to see how the dynamic might change now.

On tonight’s episode, “Scarecrow,” the BAU team heads to Yakima, Wash., after the remains of a dozen people are found along a creek bed. Also, they welcome new team member Stephen Walker (Damon Gupton), a seasoned profiler from the Behavioral Analysis Program of the FBI.

Travel with the team to Washington tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, Lethal Weapon, Speechless, Brothers Take New Orleans, Cooks vs Cons, & black-ish.

Megan’s Choice

thevoice2016smallIt has been a season full of incredible talent yet again on The Voice, and I am loving the combination of the new judges as well. Alicia Keys has really brought a fresh new perspective to the show, but even more important is the fact that her team has some of the most amazing talent. Wè McDonald is incredible, and every time she sings, I am astounded by her poise. I’m hoping she wins, because she truly deserves it.

On tonight’s episode, “Semi-Finale Artist Perform,” the Top 8 artists perform live in front of coaches Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton for America’s votes.

To see if your favorite can earn the votes to win it all, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Kevin Can Wait, Man With a Plan, The Great Christmas Light Fight, and Timeless.

Recap/Review – This Is Us – 11/29/16

This week’s episode of This Is Us (titled: “The Trip”) is another emotional performance from Randall, who is still reeling from the lie his mother kept from him his entire life.

Recap:

thisisusrecap1130smallIn the beginning of this episode, we find Randall angrily pacing in his bedroom, writing notes down on a sheet of paper. He invites Beth and William in the room because they are waiting outside of the door for him. Randall reveals he’s making a list of all the reason’s he’s angry with Rebecca. The question of the episode spills from Randall’s lips to William, “Did my father know about you?” William doesn’t think Jack ever knew, but that question remains to be answered as we jump into a flashback.

Randall becomes very interested in finding out who his birth parents are, and Jack makes a case for him with Rebecca, especially after Yvette tells them that they should find a black male role model for Randall. With the heavy secret on her shoulders, she refuses to indulge Randall and wants him to be happy with his family as is.
