chicagofire1110smallI’m a sucker for emotional moments on a show while it still has moments of excitement. Chicago Fire has had all those moments lately, moving it to the top of my must-see list quickly. Last week, we watched as Casey and Dawson lost their baby after she was rushed into surgery for a miscarriage and internal bleeding. It was heartbreaking to watch, but I loved the end, where Casey assured Dawson that they were back together because he loved her and needed her, not because of the baby. On the arson case, the missing files were recovered, and it was discovered that it was Duff who had stolen the files because he needed money. His guilt caused him to try to commit suicide, but Severide saved his life. Through this all, we got to see the firehouse yet again band together to take care of each other, showing us all why this is the house to be in. As a side note, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD were both renewed for next season yesterday. Yay!

On tonight’s episode, “Regarding this Wedding,” after a fire ruins a neighborhood wedding, Boden steps up to host the ceremony at the firehouse. That’s much to the chagrin of his boss, Chief Riddle, whose political aspirations have caused friction from within the firehouse. Meanwhile, Dawson, who returns to the house, also butts heads with Riddle over her ability to perform and is forced to defend herself despite Boden’s support. Severide finds himself fighting for his way back to his old position, and Capt. Patterson is caught between loyalty toward leadership and loyalty to his colleagues.

To see if Boden can stand against the powers that be to maintain his house, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching NCIS, NCIS: NOLA, Chopped, The Voice, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scream Queens, Limitless, and Wicked City.

ncis512smallLast week’s NCIS was very emotional. The team, along with Ned Dorneget, was on the search for the group that is recruiting children and teenagers. The episode before that, Gibbs was almost killed when one of those teens blew up himself and a thankfully empty (after Gibbs got the passengers out) bus. The team figured out the group was on the hunt for S-bombs on the black market. McGee and Ned went to Egypt to try to help find the terrorist group’s leader. Unfortunately, that’s where the other six bombs were planted at the hotel they were at, and as Ned was trying to get people away from the hotel, he wasn’t able to stop a man from tripping the laser, which blew the bombs…killing Ned.

Ned was far from my favorite character, but he’d grown up so much from the time he joined the team temporarily. Being on the NCIS cyber team had done him a lot of good. When McGee flew home with his body, we met Ned’s mother…who, it turns out, is CIA. She told Gibbs that it was time to get these guys, so with her and the CIA’s help, The Calling is going down, I can only imagine — but will they take anyone else down with them? Tonight’s season finale should answer that question, but I have my fingers crossed!

On tonight’s episode, “Neverland,” NCIS feverishly investigates the Calling, a global terrorist group that is recruiting teens via the Internet, following a deadly bombing overseas that resulted in Ned Dorneget’s death. Mimi Rogers guest stars as CIA Officer Joanna Teague, Ned’s mother.

Find out if the team can take down the Calling tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

ncis224smallLast week’s NCIS was focused on Sergei Mishnev after he was behind the explosion that killed one Marine at a summit for global terror event. But when Emily Fornell came to Gibbs, asking for his help with her father, Gibbs opted to sit out the case—sort of. He got Fornell out of jail when he was locked up after being caught on a DUI, and then he took him out to a remote cabin and basically performed an intervention. Vance and the team found out that Mishnev had it out for Gibbs so bad because he’d killed Ari, Ziva’s half-brother, who was also Mishnev’s half-brother, sharing a mother rather than a father like Ari and Ziva did. In the end, Gibbs set it up so Mishnev knew he was there, and with Russian Counselor Anton Pavlenko’s help, Mishnev went there on the assumption that the Russian government had sanctioned Gibbs’s murder. Gibbs was able to sneak up behind him and knock him unconscious, and when Mishnev came to, he was back on the road much like the one where Gibbs thought he’d killed him (It wasn’t clear to me… WAS it the same road? No matter…), and out of the glare of the headlights stepped Fornell, who shot him dead. This time, Gibbs took the time to make sure he was dead. (Thank goodness!)

I’m glad the Mishnev story line is done, and I hope now Fornell can find some peace, not only for himself but also for his daughter. I also really enjoyed seeing Pavlenko actually be a solid help for Gibbs, not an “is he or isn’t he a good guy” routine.

On tonight’s episode, “Blast From the Past,” a covert identity created for one of Gibbs’ undercover cases 20 years ago resurfaces after a murder victim is found living under the alias. Alan Dale guest stars.

See Gibbs go undercover in a very un-Gibbs-like role tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef: Junior, 19 Kids & Counting, Hotel Showdown, Married at First Sight: The First Year, NCIS: NOLA, Rizzoli & Isles, Chopped, Forever, Our Little Family, Person of Interest, Restaurant Startup, & Cougar Town.

rizzoliandisles217smallMy first pick tonight is the winter premiere of Rizzoli & Isles. This season has been really rough. The team learned about Frost’s death and Jane was dealing with her pregnancy when she ended up losing the baby during a case gone bad. Meanwhile, Maura’s relationship with her professor boyfriend is really going well, and before the break, she met his 12-year-old daughter, which went well. Jane and the team are still reeling from Frost’s death, and things are up in the air with Angela, who quit her job and broke up with Cavanaugh to start fresh (sounds like a midlife crisis to me, but whatever…). It’ll be interesting to see how the last three episodes of the season go from here. (By the way… Why take a winter break and then have to come back for only three episodes?? Why not just finish airing them with the others??)

On tonight’s episode, “Bridge to Tomorrow,” after Jane jumps from a bridge to save a prosecutor suspected of his murdering his mistress, Maura is terrified that she has lost her best friend. The squad must now renew the search to find the real killer. Meanwhile, Angela enlists Frankie’s help as she applies to new jobs.

See how Jane survives jumping from the bridge tonight on TNT at 9/8c.
