Recap/Review – This Is Us – 11/15/16

This week’s episode of This Is Us (titled: The Best Washing Machine in the Whole World) gave us a better understanding of the obvious rift in Kevin and Randall’s relationship. We see the Big Three as teenagers while the strain between Rebecca and Jack presses on their relationship.

Kate and Toby had their own challenges this week. Toby met his goal weight while Kate was sorely disappointed with her results after exercising and eating right for some time. She tries to be a supportive girlfriend while it’s apparent that she’s distraught. Her mood doesn’t improve when she catches Toby binge-eating at home and hiding it from her. He admits that he doesn’t want to diet anymore, even when Kate insists she needs support in that respect. Toby tells Kate he will eat the way she wants them to eat when they’re together. This is tested when they go out to dinner and Toby refuses to get dessert. Kate urges him to get dessert if he wants since she doesn’t want him to go home and hide his eating from her. The desperation and want on her face while he’s eating propels Kate to buy some powdered donuts when she stops for gas on the way home.

Recap/Review – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – 11/11/16

This week’s episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (titled: “When Will Josh and His Friend Leave Me Alone?”) packed an emotional punch in many ways, and we were able to get a few more musical numbers to round it out!

Recap:

crazyexgirlfriendrecap1112smallThis episode picks up at the airport at the scene of last week’s cliffhanger. Rebecca confronts Greg and asks why he is leaving. He tells her he’s going to Emory. He was unable to say good-bye to her because then he’d never leave. They tell each other they loved the other, but then Greg recaps their relationship with a song titled, “It Was a Sh*t Show” and then leaves for good.

Paula tries to comfort a depressed Rebecca while dealing with her secret that she is pregnant. She and Scott have a discussion, and he tells her that she has options. Paula immediately refuses and really starts to believe her dream of becoming a lawyer is over.

While Rebecca is attempting to heal, she is visited by “memory spirits” in the corporeal forms of Greg and Josh. She wants them to go away, but they can’t since the memories of them are all over the house. And by memories, they mean sex memories. They jump into an energetic song and dance number titled, “We Tapped That A**”. Rebecca then attempts to torch all the items that remind her of the guys, effectively burning down her apartment. She then turns to Heather for comfort and a place to stay. And we learn that Heather lives with her parents!

Recap/Review – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – 11/4/16

Yesterday was a new episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, titled “All Signs Point To Josh… Or Is It Josh’s Friend?” As always, I enjoyed it, so check out my recap/review now!

Recap:

crazyexgfrecap114smallIn the beginning of this episode, we find Rebecca and Josh in bed together, then Greg shows up with a pizza. (What?!) They invite Greg into bed with them, and they seem cozy together. They’re all in agreement that being in a relationship together is a fabulous idea.

While this seems ridiculous…it is! The scenario is actually Rebecca questioning a thrupple she found on Craiglist, who are in a polyamorous relationship. She thinks that her relationship with Josh and Greg is like theirs. They explain to her that their relationship isn’t a “default” option for Rebecca’s inability to choose between the two men in her life. They tell her she’s in a love triangle.

Rebecca breaks into a Marilyn Monroe-esque song about love triangles entitled, “The Math of Love Triangles.” In the song, a group of men dressed like professors attempt to explain the geometric part of “love triangle” quite unsuccessfully, and by the end of the number, Rebecca hasn’t learned much about her predicament.

Recap/Review – This Is Us – 11/1/16

Hi everyone! Welcome to my recap/review posts. My name is Katlyn Duncan, and I’m a young-adult author. I love exploring new characters in my writing and on television. I’ll be writing up my thoughts on This Is Us and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, starting with last night’s This Is Us, so let’s get to it…

Recap:

thisisusrecap111smallDuring the past timeline for the This Is Us characters, Jack switches careers to take a desk job so that he can make more money for the family. While his intentions are admirable, he gets through the day by dreaming of starting his own company called Big Three Homes. When Miguel informs Jack that he has been promoted and wants Jack to join his team, Jack refuses, explaining his plan to go out on his own. Miguel gives Jack a week to think about his offer. Jack doesn’t think he needs a week to think about it, until everything changes.

At home, Rebecca shows him Randall’s average-looking report card with a note that the teacher wants a conference with them. When they attend the meeting, Randall’s teacher explains that Randall tested off the charts and recommends they send him to a special school so that he can be challenged academically.
