If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/12/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Megan’s Choice

shannarachronicles2016smallIt may seem at times that all I watch is procedurals or cooking shows, but that’s not true. I am also a sucker for a good fantasy show, and The Shannara Chronicles has definitely caught my interest. It has adventure, magic, and unlikely heroes, all of which make for a fantastic series, not to mention it’s based off a bestselling book series written by the talented Terry Brooks.

In case you missed last week’s 2-hour premiere, here’s a brief rundown so you can easily catch up this week. The show takes place in a magical land known as the Four Lands, eons after the fall of humans. There is a special Elvish tree, Ellcrys, which protects the land from the demon world, but unfortunately it is dying. This sets the trio of Amberle, Wil Ohmsford, and Allanon on a quest to find a new, safe home for the tree before the boundary between the worlds is completely dissolved, bringing an unstoppable demon army into the Four Lands.

If you are a fan of fantasy and adventure, then you simply must tune into watch this show!

On last week’s episode, we got to know the characters and watched as the tree was found to be sick and the trio was formed. There were demons and love stories along with great fight scenes. If it wasn’t exciting enough for you, then you need to re-evaluate your idea of excitement.

On tonight’s episode, “Fury,” Wil and Amberle are kidnapped by Eretria and Cephalo while returning to the palace. But the Rovers are the least of their worries. Wil must learn how to use the Elfstones before a bloodthirsty Fury kills them all.

To see if this unlikely group can defeat the Fury, tune in to MTV at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Teen Wolf, Chopped, and New Girl.

Recap/Review – Saving Hope – “Pink Clouds” – 9/13/12

Last week, Joel quit from Hope-Zion hospital, Gavin made some risky moves by caring for a patient, and Charlie woke up from his coma.

Keep in mind that in America, NBC cancelled this show and are only showing the final two episodes online, while in Canada CTV has given this show a second season for next summer.

First Medical Case:

A woman had a feeding tube put in so she can lose weight, but it has perforated her stomach. While in surgery, they discover some nodes and must do a biopsy to discover if it is gastric cancer. They get the results back while in surgery and try to remove as much of the cancer as they can. When Alex first tries to tell the woman about this development, she freezes up and has to tell them later. The woman decides against treatment because she wants to spend the rest of her life living instead of undergoing awful treatment. They end with a quiet marriage ceremony in the hospital.

Recap/Review – Saving Hope – “Ride Hard or Go Home” – 9/6/12

Last week, Charlie realized he was in the car when his parents died, a SARS outbreak made Shahir and Victor realize their love for each other, and Alex confronted Joel on his cheating.

Just as a side note, NBC pulled the last two episodes of this show, opting to air them on NBC.com only, but they are still airing in Canada.

First Medical Case:

Joel comes in to assist Tom Reycroft in setting a woman’s pelvis. She is a female jockey, who broke her pelvis after a bad fall. Joel discusses her two options: a slow non-surgical recovery, or a quick but very risky surgery. As the woman is anxious about getting back to her sport, she opts for the surgery, which Joel is uneasy about, but he goes for it anyway. During the surgery, he stops the drill as he realizes he has hit an artery and quickly calls in Alex to save the woman. The woman almost died, and she lost much of the feeling in her legs, which leaves for a ruined career.

Last week, Charlie made a breakthrough on why he is still in a coma, and Joel cheated on Maggie with Dawn.

First Medical Case:

Alex is called to assist a patient in the ER who has the symptoms of a ruptured appendix, and he also seems to have a summer cold. When they open him up, they discover that his appendix is perfectly fine, and there is nothing wrong which is causing his symptoms. As Alex is about to investigate further in the surgery, the man crashes on the table, and he dies. Alex doesn’t believe that it was a flu that caused the symptoms and problems, and Zach does some digging. They discover that the man flew in from Mumbai, where there was an outbreak of the SARS virus.

Recap/Review – Saving Hope – “A New Beginning” – 8/23/12

Last week, Dawn revoked Charlie’s DNR after realizing that he was hanging on, Maggie thought over Gavin’s kiss, Dana gave Alex’s Chief Surgical Residency to Tom, and Joel dealt more with the loss of a patient.

First Medical Case:

Alex is doing a checkup on a patient who recently went through a gastric bypass surgery and lost half his weight, when he mentions that he dropped a barbell on his chest, and although the bruising has gone away, there is still tenderness. Alex notices discharge when she pushes on his nipple, leading her to do a biopsy after thinking it may be cancer. It turns out to be a form of breast cancer, and the man immediately undergoes surgery. His boyfriend leaves after finding out about the cancer but comes back when Alex is checking the incision after surgery.
