Tonight, one of my favorite comedies, The Detour, returns for its fourth season on TBS. Last season, the Parker family headed to Alaska and assumed fake identities to hide from the authorities, but as usual, they managed to mess things up and went back on the run. Meanwhile, the somewhat crazy Edie had been stalking Nate after she secretly impregnated herself with his sperm. It turns out that Edie also happened to be a long-lost sister of Robin’s. (How is she going to react when she finds out that her husband is the father of her niece/nephew?!) In the season finale, the family ended up in an abandoned ghost town filled with LARPers. Delilah used this distraction to exact a plan she had apparently been laying the groundwork for all season. She ran away, stealing her family’s money and a car from an admirer, leaving a message for the rest of her family, requesting that they not look for her.

The new season picks up several months later, with Nate, Robin, and Jared amidst their world-wide search for Delilah. What I love about this show is its blend of physical comedy and deliciously inappropriate humor. This show doesn’t worry about being PC and goes places that many comedies would shy away from. The Parkers are constantly getting into ridiculously awkward situations, and as they try to get out of them, they only succeed in making things ten times worse. Even if they are trying to do the right thing, there is always some sort of misunderstanding or unintended consequences to their actions. I can’t wait to see where the search for Delilah leads the Parkers this season and what kind of craziness they cause in the process. I checked out the first two episodes, and the show is just as wild and insane as ever. Just when you think they can’t top the previous season, they somehow manage to do so!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Search,” the Parkers embark on a world-wide search to find their runaway daughter, Delilah.

Find out how the season starts tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Blood & Treasure, The 100, Animal Kingdom, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Last week’s The Rookie was a good one. While on a disturbance call at a restaurant, Officer Nolan was putting handcuffs on a crazy young woman who went after a valet with a knife, and her dress accidentally ripped, exposing her (ugly) undergarment (bra or whatever). Unfortunately, she turned out to be the baby mama of a big gang leader (the son of the original leader, who was currently in prison), and neither of them liked that Nolan “disrespected” her. So the guy put out a “greenlight” on Nolan, and he was very nearly killed that night after picking up dinner to take home. After talking to Captain Andersen, he decided to go in to work the next day, although she told him that he would be riding with her instead of Bishop, who would be working with the rest of the precinct to shake up the gang. Sergeant Grey then visited the leader’s father in prison to get him to order his son to drop the greenlight. It worked…but then it didn’t.

The son was a complete idiot and lured Nolan and Andersen to a house with a false break-in call and then kidnapping them, not caring when he learned that he’d taken a police captain in addition to the rookie and had her zip-tied to a chair. The guy then pushed Andersen into the pool, still tied to the chair. She was able to dislocate/break her thumb and get out of the restraints, pulling one guy into the pool and shooting him after grabbing his gun and then shooting the other sidekick while Nolan struggled to get out of his restraints. The leader ran off, shooting back at them as he ran, and he got in a lucky shot that hit Andersen in the neck, killing her almost immediately. Nolan finally broke free and dived in to grab her as she sank to the bottom of the pool, but there was nothing he could do. The others arrived as he sat there with her head in his lap. Sergeant Grey then stormed into the guy’s prison cell and got him to give up his son’s location or where he’d be heading, and they were able to set up a road block and stop him. He surrendered without a fight, which was kind of a pisser, honestly. LOL

It was a really sad episode, and I have no doubt Nolan is going to feel guilty about it for a while. If he hadn’t come to work, she’d be alive. It isn’t his fault, really, but he’s going to feel that way, I’m sure. It’ll be interesting to see if that plays out in future episodes.

On tonight’s episode, “The Shake Up,” a massive earthquake rocks the city and throws everyone’s patrols and its citizens into chaos. Meanwhile, Agent Russo recommends Officer Nolan for a protective detail of Brad Hayes, a man whose dealings have put a target on his head. Sarah Shahi & Joel McHale guest star.

To see how the earthquake affects the city and our favorite officers, tune in to ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Housewife, Ellen’s Game of Games, MasterChef Junior, NCIS, The Kids Are Alright, Chopped, FBI, Mental Samurai, NCIS: New Orleans, & Miracle Workers,

Tonight, TBS kicks off the 7-episode limited comedy series Miracle Workers, which is based on the book “What in God’s Name” by Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman). The series in set in the headquarters of Heaven, Inc., where everyone has pretty much given up on humanity. God (Steve Buscemi) has grown bored with his creation and is upset that his number of fans has been steadily declining. Assistant Sanjay (Karan Soni, Deadpool) is getting increasingly frustrated with his omnipotent boss, especially when he announces that he is ready to just blow up the Earth and move on to a new venture/hobby.

The only person who seems to care is Eliza Hunter (Geraldine Viswanathan, Blockers) – she is tired of working in the Dept. of Dirt and requests a transfer. She is excited to join the Dept. of Answered Prayers, where she will be able to do some good. But when she arrives for her first day, she discovers only a single co-worker – low-level angel Craig (Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter), who seems content with just resolving a few minor requests to find lost items and marking the rest “impossible,” sending them up to the big boss, where they remain unanswered. Eliza is eager to actually make a difference, and when she learns of God’s plan to destroy Earth, she makes a bet with him – God will spare Earth if she and Craig are able to close one impossible prayer over the next 2 weeks. Their seemingly impossible task? Helping humans Sam (John Bass, Baywatch, Big Time in Hollywood, FL) and Rosie (Lolly Adefope, Damned, Loaded) fall in love.

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere (which TBS has made available online and On Demand). It reminds me of The Good Place crossed with a workplace comedy, with some inspiration from series creator Simon Rich’s previous dating comedy Man Seeking Woman. I like that this is a short, limited series, so it’s not going to be a huge time commitment, and we’ll likely get a complete story in just 7 episodes. The main cast is a lot of fun and are joined by some great guest stars over the course of the series, including Tituss Burgess, Margaret Cho, Angela Kinsey, Tim Meadows, John Reynolds, and Chris Parnell. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the story plays out.

On tonight’s premiere, “2 Weeks,” frustrated with the mess that Earth’s become, God contemplates the end while two determined angels try to change his mind.

Go to Heaven and meet with God and his angels tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording American Housewife, The Kids Are Alright, black-ish, The Rookie, This Is Us, and The Flash.

Good morning, USA! I have a feeling that it’s going to be a wonderful mid-season premiere of American Dad! tonight. This show is one of the funniest animated series ever, and I am glad there are still seasons to go on this whacky Seth McFarland creation. The mid-season finale was a classic and hilarious end to another amazing run of episodes. It started with Francine getting appointed guidance counselor at Steve’s high school, because of course. Steve’s French Club pals were putting on a fashion show, which prompted Rodger’s “school janitor persona” to warn Francine about the dangerous bullies, the “Golden Girls,” who will mock Steve’s efforts. This trio of bad girls, all with the same 1/2-Chelsea haircut, reminded Francine of the Archery Club bullies who once crushed her spirit in HS.

There was a completely “bleh” B story about Jeff losing his hat, and Stan and Klaus just sort of hopped into a high school movie tertiary character role and landed a few good jokes. Predictably, Francine tried to fit in with the girls rather than curbing their cruelty. She chopped her hair down to their style haircut to fit in and blew off her counselor duties. When Steve’s show finally did happen, it was a coconuts train wreck that got worse when Francine dumped clam chowder on his head – just to earn her golden bowling jacket, a sign she’s in the bad girl club now. When she tried to apologize to Steve about her actions, he urged her to rise above the petty nature of the Golden Girls and pursue the dreams the Archery Club once stole from her.

So she went into the cafeteria and did a break dance number, as that’s what high school Francine really wanted to do. She used her insight as a guidance counselor to out all sorts of dirt on the girls, and they fled in shame. The last scene was Jeff & Hailey at a hat store with a “to be continued” pinned on, as if that was some sort of suspense. No one cares, Jeff. You were cool when you were stranded in space with Sinbad, but you are back to being the suck now. Nonetheless, tonight is going to be awesome. This show is the bee’s knees and then some, get some.

On tonight’s episode, “One-Woman Swole,” after her family accuses her of being a quitter, Francine becomes a bodybuilder. Klaus claims to have invented the high five.

To see how it goes for bodybuilder Francine, tune in to TBS at 10/9c.

I’m also watching Arrow and Black Lightning.

When Samantha Bee was not hired to take over The Daily Show, I boycotted that show for a whole year. Fortunately in the interim time, they gave her her own weekly comedy news show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Now in its hilarious third season, I am excited for tonight’s Christmas on I.C.E. Special.

Last week she started with a segment on Trump’s No Call No Show at the White House last week, a new habit he is developing. As she pointed out, it takes a special kind of lazy to not get to work when you work from the home. The second third of the show was devoted to a new streaming phone app called Fox Nation that is launching soon. It looks predictably insane and nowhere near as fun as DCU. She harped on Judge Jeanie’s “10 Minutes of Justice” show that is only seven-and-a-half minutes on average.

She then appeared as “Sam Bee from 2068,” and she was back from the future to warn us that democracy died in 2018. She was referring to the autocratic power grab that the soundly defeated GOP in Michigan, Florida, Ohio, & Wisconsin are making. The politicians that are voted out made last-minute changes to the law that stole from the people the will in government that their vote is supposed to give them. Before zapping back through time, she warned that Ted Cruz’s beard would create Skynet and cause the Apocalypse.

Lastly, Ashley Nicole Black did a podcast on a TV show, which was weird, but she interviewed Stacy Abrams in the process, so that was cool. Together they covered the voter suppression that cost Abrams the governorship in Georgia. It was funny and cute as this show usually is.

On tonight’s episode, “Christmas on I.C.E.,” join Samantha Bee for a less-godless-than-the-usual-liberal Christmas variety spectacular with all the traditional trimmings: music, laughter, joy, deep rage that the administration is separating migrant families, and gingerbread. And did we mention that the whole thing is on ice? Your move, John Legend! But also, good tidings to you.

To see all the fun, tune in to TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching the new Vikings!
