Last week’s Chicago Med was a rough one for several of the characters. Natalie had to face the morbidity & mortality conference after her patient died in the previous episode. She didn’t do anything wrong, really. The hospital’s rules and procedures need updating to prevent what happened then to happen again. But she and med student Jeff Clarke were already on the rocks after he admitted that her husband (Jeff Manning) knew of Jeff Clarke’s feelings for Natalie and he (husband Jeff) wouldn’t want Jeff C. to date her. But when Jeff C. interrupted the conference in defense of Natalie, he embarrassed her in front of all her colleagues and superiors, and at the end of the episode, she broke up with him, claiming that she felt like she’d used him, like she was using him to feel a connection to her husband and to fill the hole in her life/heart.

Speaking of hearts… The police officer who’d previously arrested Maggie was brought in after her SUV accidentally backed over her. Unfortunately, she was pronounced brain-dead. She was a registered organ donor, so the hospital was able to get her husband (a police officer himself) to agree to donate her organs. One of those was her heart, which was supposed to go to the mother of the teenage girl, the one who Dr. Charles agreed could be put on the transplant list, even though she was an alcoholic. She’d been clean and sober for years. Unfortunately, someone she knew was killed, so she’d fallen off the wagon that morning, and she and her daughter were in a car wreck on the way to the hospital. (Luckily she’d asked her daughter to drive her, so it wasn’t a DUI.) That was both a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing because it allowed them to find out a major problem with the daughter, so she had to have surgery, and then she’d be okay. But the mom nearly didn’t get the heart because of it. In fact, the committee voted to not give it to her. Fortunately for her and her daughter, another heart recipient couldn’t be found in an area close enough to use it, so she got it anyway.

On a good note, April had another sonogram, and the baby’s measurements were in the normal range, so according to Will (Dr. Halstead), April’s TB meds weren’t causing any issues. So see? Crazy, emotional episode, but it had both good and bad news for the characters!

On tonight’s episode, “Graveyard Shift,” it’s a long night on the graveyard shift at Chicago Med, especially for Dr. Reese, who must deal with pronouncing patients dead on more than one occasion. April gets called in to work, much to the dismay of Tate, who pressures her to slow down. Meanwhile, Dr. Charles passes along some vital news to Dr. Latham, and Goodwin asks Dr. Rhodes to work on a most unusual patient.

See how our medical team does overnight tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’m so excited for tonight’s return of The Good Place on NBC. This was my favorite new show of the fall, and tonight it returns to kick off its final 3 weeks of the season. When we last left off, the folks from the Bad Place had arrived to collect fake Eleanor, but she pleaded with Michael to let her stay and continue to prove she could change and justify her place there. So he decided to bring the matter before the great and powerful Shawn. Meanwhile, Chidi and the real Eleanor really hit it off – it was easy to see why they were originally paired together as soulmates. And in the episode’s cliffhanger, Tahani discovered the truth about Jianyu and his “meditation den.”

Will fake Eleanor be kicked out of her home now that real Eleanor has arrived? Which Eleanor will Chidi choose? (Not to wish ill will on real Eleanor, but I really liked the growing relationship between Chidi and fake Eleanor, so I hope she’s out of the picture soon.) What will Tahani do with the news about Jianyu, and will we learn about how he ended up in the Good Place? And who is this Shawn who will decide fake Eleanor’s fate?

On tonight’s episode, “Chidi’s Choice,” Eleanor makes a surprising personal discovery. Meanwhile, Michael tasks an indecisive Chidi with coming to an important decision, and Jianyu makes a big announcement.

See the return of the double Eleanors tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Great American Baking Show, The Big Bang Theory, The Great Indoors, Life in Pieces, Superstore, The Blacklist, and Top Chef.

thegoodplace113smallI continue to thoroughly enjoy NBC’s The Good Place. It is easily my favorite new comedy of the season. Last week Michael pulled out his lie detector cube and interrogated the group one by one to figure out who had killed Janet. Meanwhile, Janet finally got some of her memories back and was able to retrieve Eleanor’s file, so Michael changed his focus toward figuring out how Eleanor accidentally ended up in the Good Place – and we got a glimpse of some of the morally questionable things Eleanor did. Afterward, Michael put Eleanor on the train to the Bad Place. However, he quickly had a change of heart and stopped the train and asked his Bad Place counterpart, Trevor, if he could have Eleanor back to see if she could learn to become good. He agreed to this but said that the other Eleanor Shellstrop was going to have to stay with him in the Bad Place until things got sorted out. And then the two Eleanors came face to face.

These cliffhangers at the end of each episode are so amazing and make me so anxious to see what happens next. I wish I could binge the entire season all at once! I can’t wait to see the other Eleanor’s reaction to this whole situation – and what the “bad” Eleanor will even say to her. Is Michael really going to let the “good” Eleanor rough it out in the Bad Place while he sees if our Eleanor is redeemable? Will Michael learn that Jianyu was also misplaced, and are there any others? And how did this happen in the first place?

On tonight’s fall finale, “…Someone Like Me as a Member,” Michael faces a challenge when he tries to resolve an unprecedented situation. In addition, Chidi makes a connection, to Eleanor’s chagrin, and a different side of Janet emerges.

To see how the first half of the season wraps, tune in to NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, The Great Indoors, Life in Pieces, Superstore, The Blacklist, Pitch, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and 60 Days In.

thegoodplace919smallThe fall season is now in full swing, and tonight NBC kicks off its new comedy The Good Place with a 1-hour premiere on a special night/time. Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, House of Lies, Veronica Mars) is a recently deceased young woman who discovers she was accidentally sent to “the good place,” when she likely should have been sent to “the bad place.” Eleanor wasn’t the nicest, most giving person during her life on earth, and quickly realizes the man in charge, Michael (Ted Danson, CSI: Cyber, Cheers), has incorrectly attributed someone else’s long list of good deeds to her. At first she decides to just run with it. However, when this mistake starts to threaten the tranquility of “the good place,” Eleanor seeks the assistance of her afterlife-assigned “soul mate” Chidi (William Jackson Harper, The Electric Company), a former ethics professor, to help her become a better person. The series comes from the hilarious Michael Schur (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, Master of None) and also stars Jameela Jamil (Playing It Straight), Manny Jacinto (The Romeo Section), and D’Arcy Carden (Broad City).

I really enjoyed tonight’s one-hour premiere, which had me laughing out loud several times. The series offers a fresh take on the concepts of heaven and hell and sets up an interesting and delightful world with some fun characters and relationships. The pilot also establishes a larger mystery of how Eleanor ended up there, what if she gets found out, and what kind of effect her not-so-perfect personality will have in this perfect afterlife. I’m looking forward to seeing how the series plays out week-to-week once it moves to its normal time of 8:30/7:30c on Thursdays later this week.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot; Flying,” Eleanor Shellstrop enters the afterlife and begins her process of becoming a better person in the series premiere, which is the first half of a combined episode. Later, Eleanor tries to prove that she’s worthy of Chidi’s help, and a flaw emerges in Michael’s Neighborhood.

Don’t miss out on meeting Eleanor and Michael tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Match Game, The Big Bang Theory, Kevin Can Wait, Gotham, Lucifer, Food Network Star Kids, and Major Crimes.
