My pick for tonight is the series premiere of Gone on WGN America. As of last month, there’s a chilling statistic in the US, according to WGN America: 83,957 people are missing in the US at any given moment. Chris Noth (Law & Order, Sex and the City), Leven Rambin (The Path, True Detective), & Danny Pino (Law & Order: SVU, Mayans M.C.) star in a missing person’s detective procedural that follows the story of Kit “Kick” Lannigan (Rambin), the survivor of a famous child-abduction case, and Frank Novak (Noth), the FBI agent who rescued her. Years later, Novak is running a special task force dedicated to solving abductions and missing person’s cases, and he recruits Lannigan to join. She’s paired with former Army intelligence officer John Bishop (Pino) and uses her intuitive wit and martial arts skills to solve cases and bring victims home. The show also stars Tracie Thomas (UnREAL, 9-1-1) and Andy Mientus (The Flash, Anger Management).

I love detective procedurals, and I love Chris Noth and Danny Pino. I’ve liked Leven Rambin in everything I’ve seen her in (guest starring spots for me, mostly), so hopefully I’ll enjoy her in this. I hope the show focuses on cases (like a case of the week) more than a dramatic story about Novak or Bishop suddenly being a bad guy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” FBI Agent Frank Novak seeks out former abductee Kick Lannigan and asks her to join him in a special task force that solves abductions and missing persons cases.

To meet Novak and Lannigan, tune in to WGN America at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chicago Med, The Goldbergs, Schooled, Chicago FIre, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Single Parents, Chicago PD, & a repeat of Whiskey Cavalier.

My favorite genre of TV has to be the procedural – cops, detectives, crime scene, & the like. So when I got an email about screeners for a new lighthearted detective comedy/procedural on WGN America, Carter. Jerry O’Connell stars as Harley Carter, an actor playing a detective on a hit TV show who retreats to his hometown after an embarrassing public meltdown in Hollywood. (Yes, it sounds similar to Take Two, with the actor/public meltdown/becoming a detective in real life. But I’m okay with that. LOL) Once there, he uses what he’s learned on set to help out his childhood best friend, Sam Shaw (Sydney Poitier Heartsong), a police detective. He also ropes in their third best friend, Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun), who reluctantly goes along with Harley’s sometimes crazy, sometimes dangerous schemes.

I’ve seen most of the first 10-episode season, and while it isn’t perfect, it’s a fun, enjoyable show that is an escape from the real world, which is just kind of what we want sometimes, isn’t it?

On tonight’s episode, “Koji the Killer,” Harley Carter returns to his Ontario hometown after a public scandal, only to find that his housekeeper has been accused of murder.

Check out this fun new comedic procedural tonight on WGN America at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped, & Making It.

outsiderssmallTonight, WGN America kicks off its newest scripted series, Outsiders, with a commercial-free premiere. For the past 200 years, 7 generations of the Farrell family have lived in their mountaintop homestead in Appalachia, keeping themselves cut off from the rest of the world. Now a bunch of developers who own the land want to reclaim it and all of its resources, but the Farrells will fight to protect Shay Mountain and defend their way of life, at all costs. Local sheriff Wade Houghton (Thomas M. Wright, Top of the Lake), whose family has lived in the area for 5 generations, is familiar with the Farrells and is hesitant to get involved as he knows just how violent this battle will get.

Asa Farrell (Joe Anderson, The Divide) left the clan as a teenager to explore the outside world but has now returned like the prodigal son, looking to be welcomed back into the fold, but he is now quite different from the rest of his family. Asa’s cousin Big Foster (David Morse, Concussion) is next in line to be Bren’in, the Farrells’ king, and he’s anxious to take his new position. He suspects his mother, Lady Ray (Phyllis Somerville, The Big C), has delayed handing over power to him due to Asa’s return. G’Winveer (Gillian Alexy, The Americans) is a healer for the clan. She is Asa’s third cousin and former childhood sweetheart. She’s been with Big’s eldest son Lil’ Foster (Ryan Hearst, Sons of Anarchy) ever since Asa left but still holds deep feelings for her former love. The cast also includes Christina Jackson (Boardwalk Empire), who plays Sally-Ann, one of the few African-American folks in town, who falls in love with one of the Farrells.

Since Comcast only carries WGN America in SD in this area, I’m not sure I’ll be sticking with this show, but I’m curious to check out the premiere tonight. From the trailer, it looks fort of like Sons of Anarchy meets Mad Max meets Justified.

On tonight’s episode, “Farrell Wine,” a struggle for power and control set in the mysterious hills of modern-day Appalachia centers on the Farrell family, who, in the series premiere, are faced with new threats to their off-the-grid way of life in rural Kentucky.

Meet the Farrell family tonight on WGN America at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agent Carter, Hollywood Game Night, New Girl, Grandfathered, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder, The Flash, The Expanse, Pitch Slapped, Teen Wolf, and The Shannara Chronicles.
