besttimeeversmallIn my opinion, Neil Patrick Harris is one of my generation’s funniest and likable TV personalities. Loved him as Doogie Howser, then as Barney, and he always does a fantastic job as host on the award shows. So when I heard about his new variety show, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, I was really excited. And the promos I’ve seen for it have given me high hopes that it’ll live up to the hype. The live, one-hour show comes complete with stunts, skits, pranks, audience interaction, musical numbers, giveaways, and unlimited surprises and is based on the popular British show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Hopefully the proven format from the UK will translate to success here in the States!

On tonight’s episode, Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon serves as this week’s celebrity guest announcer.

Check out the premiere of NPH’s new show tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Labor Games, & Chopped.

zoo714smallCBS’s new “when animals attack” drama, Zoo, has wasted no time getting to the action, suspense, and animal craziness. Last week, we saw that the animal phenomenon is not limited to cats and that the animals are actually premeditating and planning out their murderous acts. In Africa, Jackson and Captain Kavimba found Abraham’s body in the tree and discovered that the lions had not fatally wounded him — they were sending a message to the humans. And back in LA, Jamie and Mitch operated on a lion and discovered that a chemical in the animals may be allowing them to communicate with one another. Meanwhile, in Slovenia, a man was lured into an alley by the family dog, only to be surrounded by a bunch of the dog’s vicious pals, who tore the man apart. The dog then went back to the man’s hotel room, knocked on the door, and pretended like nothing happened when the man’s wife let him in.

What is causing the animals to rise up against the humans, and does their dangerous form of communication extend across species? Can these people find a way to stop the animals before they wipe out the entire human population? I really enjoyed the original James Patterson novel, but this series is completely different and only similar in the general concept — the characters and reasons for the dangerous animal behavior have all been changed. So it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

This past weekend, I got a chance to talk with the executive producers of the series, as well as two of the stars, in the CBS press room at the San Diego Comic-Con. You can find these interviews at NoReruns.net. (I had to ask them if that dog was really supposed to have knocked on the hotel room door!)

On tonight’s episode, “The Silence of the Cicadas,” Jackson flies to Japan with Abraham to recover the rest of his father’s research involving animals; Jamie convinces Mitch to join her when she shows a Louisiana senator their findings on the abnormal behavior of the zoo lions; a shadowy intelligence agent recruits Chloe in Paris; and a death-row inmate escapes from a Mississippi prison during a vicious wolf invasion.

Learn more about why the animals are attacking tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Hollywood Game Night, Tyrant, Clipped, Chrisley Knows Best, Royal Pains, Scream, and Another Period.

Hollywood Game Night is one of my favorite primetime game shows, and I’m thrilled to see it returning to the lineup tonight. The hilarious Jane Lynch is back as host, and each week, 6 new celebrities will join two “normies” to battle it out in a series of fun games. This show is always a blast to watch as the celebrities let loose and just have fun.

Each season, the show does a great job of introducing fun new games while also bringing back many of our favorites, and this year is no different. In addition to the new games, the show is also changing up the final round this year, giving the winning player the assistance of two celebrities instead of just one.

On tonight’s episode, “Two Janes Are Better Than One,” season 3 kicks off with celebrity players John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Giada De Laurentiis, Zachary Quinto, and Jane Krakowski.

Check out the new games and returning favorites tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Zoo, Tyrant, Clipped, Chrisley Knows Best, Royal Pains, Scream, and Another Period.

zoo630smallI’m so excited about tonight! CBS’s latest thriller, Zoo, starts tonight. Based on the book by James Patterson, the show is about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans all over the globe. Jackson Oz — a young renegade American zoologist, played by James Wolk — begins to see a link between the animal attacks and his late father’s dubious theories about looming threats to humans. Kristen Connolly stars as L.A. news reporter Jamie Campbell, while Billy Burke plays Mitch Morgan, off-kilter veterinarian. Finally, Nora Arnezeder stars as Chloe Tousignant, a French investigator who meets Oz in Africa. As the assaults occurring worldwide become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious, Oz and the others are thrust into the race to unlock the mystery of the pandemic before there’s no place left for people to hide.

On tonight’s episode, “First Blood,” Jackson Oz, an American ex-pat safari guide living in Africa, discovers a link between strange animal attacks on people occurring around the world and his late father’s controversial theories about an impending threat to the human race. Meanwhile, journalist Jamie Campbell and veterinary pathologist Mitch Morgan team up to investigate similar abnormal animal behavior in Los Angeles.

Check out this fun thriller tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing FIFA Women’s World Cup, America’s Got Talent, Chrisley Knows Best, The Little Couple, I Can Do That, Rizzoli & Isles, Stitchers, Junk Food Flip, Chopped, Clipped, Royal Pains, & Scream.
