12monkeys418smallLast year, Syfy’s new time-bending sci-fi drama 12 Monkeys was a pleasant surprise and ended up being one of my favorite shows of the year. Tonight the series returns for its second season. The show centers around James Cole, who was sent back from 2043 to 2015 in order to prevent a virus from being spread that would wipe out the world. When we last left off, Cole had confronted his former best friend Ramse, who had traveled back decades earlier and was just waiting out his time until 2015 so he could use the splinter machine when it was first created, to save his son. However, Cole and Cassie caught up with him, and Cassie pulled a gun and shot Ramse, but she was also shot in the crossfire. With both of them bleeding out, Ramse gave Cassie his needle of time-travel serum and told her to inject herself and go to the future, where Jones would save her. However, in 2043, Jones was having her own issues – Deacon had joined forces with the group of 12 to storm the facility and seize control of the machine. However, they were shocked to see Cassie arrive. And back in 2015, new Markridge CEO Jennifer Goines was seen setting out for a 12-city trip around the globe and was loading 12 mysterious boxes onto her plane.

The Striking Woman said that it was Ramse’s fate to die in 2015 and that couldn’t be changed, but Cole decided to save his friend – how is that possible, and what affect will this have? If Ramse isn’t The Witness, then who is? With no time-travel injection, how will Cole and Ramse get back to the future, or will they just wait out the next 28 years?! What does the group of 12 have planned in the future, and how will Cassie’s arrival affect that? And speaking of Cassie, how will she survive in the future – isn’t she in danger of catching the virus? And what is Jennifer planning with her 12-city globetrotting adventure?! I’m really excited to see what happens next and can’t wait to check out tonight’s season premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Year of the Monkey,” Cole and Ramse mend their broken friendship while on the run from the Army of the 12 Monkeys in the Season 2 premiere. And in the year 2043, Railly and Jones navigate an uncertain future as Deacon and the Twelve command the Temporal Facility.

Catch up with Cole, Ramse, and the others tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Supergirl, Castle, Blindspot, Gotham, Lucifer, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The Detour, Bates Motel, Hunters, Better Call Saul, and Talking Saul.

grimm410smallGrimm has really sucked me in this season, although I’m not really pleased with the whole Juliette is a hexenbiest and Adalind is pregnant with Nick’s baby story lines — then again, neither of those two characters have been my favorite… I want Juliette and Nick to stay together because he’s happy with her, but I’m not sure that’s possible if she’s a hexenbiest, and I KNOW it isn’t possible when she’s being a raving crazy b…witch. I did love last week when the new Royal put Adalind in her place about the father of her baby by announcing that Viktor was sterile. *laugh* It’ll be interesting to see where both those stories go — the new Royal is a tough SOB, isn’t he?

On tonight’s episode, “Hibernaculum,” Nick and Hank are called to investigate a rare Wesen that leaves its victims frozen solid. Meanwhile, Juliette starts to feel that she is losing her humanity as she seeks to get revenge on Adalind. Elsewhere, Captain Renard continues to suffer from mysterious bleeding and visions, while Monroe works toward coming to grips with the Wesenrein incident.

See if Nick, Hank, and Wu can solve the case tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, Cristela, Hawaii Five-0, Bride By Design, & Blue Bloods.

cristela327smallMy favorite new comedy this season has been ABC’s Cristela. It’s just so cute and sweet and funny. Last week was more of the same. Natalia (or Ama), Cristela’s mother, decided the whole family was going to a friend’s granddaughter’s quinceanera, and she basically ordered Cristela to invite “Josh from work” as her date because her daughter dating a white man would look good to everyone. Cristela balked at first but eventually gave in after Ama showed up at her work and invited Josh herself for Cristela. While at the party, Cristela refused to dance, and through a conversation with Daniela, we learned that she thought she wasn’t good enough for someone like Josh, that a man like him wouldn’t like her. In the end, he convinced her he wanted to dance with her, so they did. It was very sweet…and I loved Cristela’s jealousy at the attention a pretty woman paid to Josh (who was actually a little oblivious. LOL).

I’m a big Cristela/Josh shipper, but I’m glad they aren’t rushing them into a relationship. Hopefully that’s where they’re planning to take the pair, but if they aren’t, that’s where my imagination comes in. 😉 Tonight is a double episode, so I’m excited to get twice the fun!

On tonight’s first episode, “Latino 101,” Trent picks Cristela to sit at his table for the trial of a landlord accused of not renting to minorities. But his reason for doing so — to show a minority on the landlord’s side — backfires on him, and Cristela must decide whether to use an advantage she did not earn through hard work. Meanwhile, as Alberto starts bonding with Natalia, Daniela becomes suspicious that perhaps he’s “using Ama to get in good with Cristela.” Then on the second new episode, “Great Expectations,” when tasked by Trent to motivate Maddie’s work ethic, Cristela has to think fast to come up with creative ways to convince Maddie to get through their shared workload. Meanwhile back at home, Daniela is on a work trip as Felix finds himself alone and taking care of the kids.

Laugh along with me tonight on ABC at 8/7c & 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Grimm & Bride By Design.

bluebloods220smallThank goodness it’s Friday! It has been a ridiculously long and hectic week around my house, which is making my anticipation for an all-new Blue Bloods tonight even greater. Last week’s episode, Jamie and Eddie spend their dealing with a civil volunteer officer, Andy, who took his position a little too seriously. He was staking out people and kept logs, but it was those crazy surveillances that got him shot. He called Jamie and Eddie to say he had a drug dealer in sight. The two cops headed out, and just while Eddie was trying to talk the dealer into putting his gun down, Andy ran at him, which ended up in Andy getting shot. The dealer then turned the gun on Jamie and Eddie, but Eddie shot the perp and he died. Jamie assured her it was a clean shoot, but she was having problems dealing with it, which eventually led to Jamie holding a sobbing Eddie at her apartment. I really hope that this brings these two closer together and even closer to them finally officially hooking up. It was a great episode, and I’m really liking where they’re going with the whole cast this season.

On tonight’s episode, “Only in New York,” an emotionally distraught man holds Baez hostage at gunpoint in an interrogation room after she served him with a restraining order. Danny must try to meet his demands before he harms her. Meanwhile, Frank is faced with a personal and moral dilemma when Garrett asks for help in dropping charges filed against his son.

To find out if Danny can save his partner, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Hawaii Five-0, Hart of Dixie, Undercover Boss, Glee, and 12 Monkeys.

Kyle’s Choice #1

12monkeys116smallTonight, Syfy kicks off 12 Monkeys, inspired by the cult 1995 film of the same name, about a man from a post-apocalyptic future who travels back in time to our present try to stop the spreading of a deadly plague that will ultimately wipe out almost 94% of the world’s population. The main cast includes Aaron Stanford (Nikita) as James Cole, the man trying to save the planet; Amanda Schull (Suits, One Tree Hill) as virologist Dr. Cassandra Railly who reluctantly aids Cole in his mission; Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Oz) as Ramse, Cole’s best friend; and Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages) as Aaron Marker, Cassandra’s boyfriend and political insider. The recurring cast also includes Emily Hampshire (Rookie Blue), Barbara Sukowa, Tom Noonan (Manhunter), Zeljko Ivanek (Madam Secretary, Damages), and Todd Stashwick (Warehouse 13, The Originals).

While I wasn’t a huge fan of the original film, I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. While the general premise is the same as the film, the series sets up a larger world, mystery, and conspiracy. It looks like the show is going to be a fun action-adventure thrill ride with lots of time-whimey things to try to wrap your head around. Things are constantly jumping backwards and forwards in time, events are occurring in the past before they are actually known in the present, and so on. So you are constantly piecing together the puzzle of a story and working things out at the same time as the characters are. I can’t wait to see how more of this story unfolds!

Syfy held panels for 12 Monkeys and Helix at the Syfy Digital Press Tour a few months ago. You can find my videos and coverage at NoRerruns.net.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, a man from a decimated future travels to present day on a mission to locate and eliminate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually all but annihilate the human race.

Jump back in time with this new series tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.
