hellskitchen33smallIt’s time for another season of Hell’s Kitchen, and even though this show is in its 14th season, I can’t get enough. I love cooking competition shows, but no matter how many new ones come out, this one is still at the top of my list because of the crazy antics that get brought out with all the chefs. The group of chefs this season appears to be quite the smorgasbord, but it is definitely going to be a hot season with drama, because this bunch looks feisty. I’m going to start a count of how many times someone messes up scallops in the season premiere.

On tonight’s episode, “18 Chefs Compete,” Chef Ramsay asks 18 new contestants to present their signature dishes in front of an audience, and the winning team earns a night with William Shatner; one team gets kicked out of the kitchen during the first dinner service.

To see how this group of 18 handles the heat in Ramsay’s kitchen, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Fresh Off the Boat, Pretty Little Liars, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Mindy Project, Chopped, Chicago Fire, and Gangland Undercover.

battlecreek31smallI love both Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters, and you know I love a good procedural, so put them together, and I’ve gotta love it, right? I’ve seen tonight’s premiere of Battle Creek, and I did like it. It’s slightly different than I’d hoped (I adore Josh D, and I wanted him to be a nice guy, but at least in the first episode, his character comes across as a bit of a douche…), but I still enjoyed it.

Duhamel and Winters play two law enforcement officers who have completely opposite views of the world and crime-solving. Winters plays Detective Russ Agnew, a good but kind of gruff, rough-around-the-edges small-town cop. Duhamel plays Special Agent Milton Chamberlain, who opens up an FBI field office at the police station and chooses Russ to be his partner. He’s smooth and polished, and the difference between the men leads to frustration, humor, and more. Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Edward Fordham, Jr., and Aubrey Dollar also star.

On tonight’s episode, “The Battle Creek Way,” jaded Det. Russ Agnew reluctantly partners with charming FBI Agent Milt Chamberlain to solve a drug-related double homicide, but while Milt investigates with the high-tech resources of the FBI, Russ prefers old-school police work and instinct.

Meet TV’s newest two crime solvers tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Mikie Saves the Date, The Great British Baking Show, Guy’s Grocery Games, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, All-Star Academy, The Last Man on Earth, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

greysanatomy219smallGrey’s Anatomy has been delivering this season on the emotional story front—I must have used a whole box of kleenex last episode. It was a very hard thing to watch April and Jackson struggle over the fact that their son was going to die; and it was even harder to watch Jackson pray to a God that he doesn’t believe in because he loved April so much. Losing a child is such a terrible thing, but this show has never shied away from difficult and uncomfortable topics. They instead choose to tackle them with grace and emotion. I was a ball of emotion last week, yet the show managed to have a few amusing moments thanks to Meredith trying to find a sitter for her kids for the weekend. Maggie came through for Meredith in the end, and I’m glad because I really want them to keep building this sister relationship. I’m interested to see where they’re going to go with all these characters now, especially Jackson and April.

On tonight’s episode, “The Great Pretender,” Maggie gets upset when Meredith dodges her questions about DC; Bailey and Ben become concerned about Ben’s brother after he is admitted to the hospital, and Dr. Herman starts to warm up to Arizona. Meanwhile, Richard feels manipulated by Catherine.

To see what is causing Meredith to be so tight-lipped about her trip, tune in to ABC at 8/7c.

rizzoliandisles217smallMy first pick tonight is the winter premiere of Rizzoli & Isles. This season has been really rough. The team learned about Frost’s death and Jane was dealing with her pregnancy when she ended up losing the baby during a case gone bad. Meanwhile, Maura’s relationship with her professor boyfriend is really going well, and before the break, she met his 12-year-old daughter, which went well. Jane and the team are still reeling from Frost’s death, and things are up in the air with Angela, who quit her job and broke up with Cavanaugh to start fresh (sounds like a midlife crisis to me, but whatever…). It’ll be interesting to see how the last three episodes of the season go from here. (By the way… Why take a winter break and then have to come back for only three episodes?? Why not just finish airing them with the others??)

On tonight’s episode, “Bridge to Tomorrow,” after Jane jumps from a bridge to save a prosecutor suspected of his murdering his mistress, Maura is terrified that she has lost her best friend. The squad must now renew the search to find the real killer. Meanwhile, Angela enlists Frankie’s help as she applies to new jobs.

See how Jane survives jumping from the bridge tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

chicagopd211smallI’m not sure about everyone else, but I was on the edge of my seat watching last week’s Chicago PD episode, especially seeing as it was a crossover from Chicago Fire. Robert Knepper was perfectly creepy as the arsonist, Gish. What a great casting choice… He always manages to give me chills when he’s being the villain on a show. Antonio went with his sister, Gabriella, who was sure that Gish was the arsonist responsible for Shay’s death (the paramedic on Chicago Fire), and while they didn’t have any hard evidence, Antonio believed his sister enough to bring Gish in for questioning. Voight knew he was the guy after talking with him, but Gish’s lawyer got him off, which led to a wild episode of cat and mouse, including Gish blowing up Roman and Burgess’s squad car. Later, we found out that Gish was now targeting Gabriella, and he ended up luring her to a building with a fake text message. Just as he was about to light the elevator on fire, intent on burning her alive, Antonio swept in and saved her. It was an intense moment. On another note, Lindsay was happy to be back with her old unit and was enjoying her secret relationship with Jay. Unfortunately, her mother called at the end of the episode and ruined her happiness by revealing she may know a murderer—her mom really knows how to cause stress and drama in Lindsay’s life. I’m looking forward to this week’s episode immensely, and I hope that we get to see more of Lindsay and Jay together.

On tonight’s episode, “Erin’s Mom,” Bunny comes to Lindsay, concerned about a suspicious repeat customer at her husband’s rental company. This lead brings Intelligence into a case which Robbery-Homicide has been working for months. Detective Gina Gawronski downloads their intel to the team. She also happens to be Antonio’s former co-worker from Vice. Voight doesn’t trust Bunny’s motives for the tip.

To see how Lindsay and the team handle this “tip,” tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Criminal Minds, black-ish, The Mentalist, Arrow, Empire, Wahlburgers, Donny Loves Jenny, and Law & Order: SVU.
