Phoebe’s Choice

This year’s run on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has perhaps the weirdest (most bad-ass?) role yet for Clark Gregg, the actor behind deceased SHIELD Director, Philip Coulson. This time around, he’s an inter-dimensional hero, tasked with tracking down and destroying the lay-line riding crystalline parasites known as the Shrike. His name is Sarge, and last week started with him considering making May his new recruit. Throughout the episode, there were all these weird parallels between what Sarge said and what Coulson said in her memories of him in his dying days; it was either a weird foreshadowing or real clumsy writing. Could go either way, really.

Daisy & Jemma’s deep space search team was hot on the heels of Fitz, when they were overcome by Chronicons in Confederacy warships. Enoch, Fitz’s new bff, was a Chronicon as well as the impetus for all of last season’s time-travel arc. So it was fitting that these members of his species, led by the domineering Atarah, were there to force the SHIELD science experts to reinvent time travel for their own purposes. Enoch let on that Fitz would & could do anything to save Jemma, so they sought to imprison her. Daisy assisted in a momentary escape, but Jemma realized she must work with Fitz on the matter, and so she surrendered to Atarah in exchange for Daisy and her crew’s freedom.

May survived a one-on-one fight against a Shrike, passing her test to be recruited into Sarge’s team, with their Fury Road tractor trailer truck and Rift motiff. She wasn’t interested in the job though and instead subdued Sarge and his one remaining, slightly unhinged soldier. Dr. Benson, the new resident SHIELD science guy (not in space), seemed to be trying to track down the Infinity Stones, when Daisy and her small crew returned to Earth finally. In the last moments of the episode, we watched Enoch confess to Fitz how he betrayed Jemma to the Chronicons to force Fitz to re-invent time travel. Harsh, bro. You are bffs no more.

This season is still as entertaining as any of them have been. I will never tire of watching May kick the crap out of people. Weird aliens and interdimensional doom seem par the course for this show, and that’s entertainment to me! I also see some Avengers: Endgame parallels going on here, but I don’t think we’ll get an outright claim that any of this connects to Thanos. We’ll see, though.

On tonight’s episode, “Inescapable,” they’ve fought through space, time, and alternate realities to find each other, and now, closer than ever, only their own demons can stop FitzSimmons’ reunion.

To see if FitzSimmons can reunite tonight, tune in to ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Swamp Thing.

One of my favorite people to watch on TV is Poppy Montgomery. I loved her in both Unforgettable & Without a Trace, so I’m thrilled to have her back in Reef Break. I also like Ray Stevenson (Babylon Fields, Rome, Saints & Strangers), and Desmond Chiam (Now Apocalypse) is quite good-looking. And I LOVE the premise of this new drama. Poppy plays Cat Chambers, former thief-turned-fixer for the governor of a stunning and seductive Pacific Island paradise. She’s impulsive, reckless, yet irresistible, and her past gives her an instinctive gift for understanding crime and criminals as she becomes involved in adventures and intrigue on the island paradise known as The Reef. The show also stars Melissa Bonne (Pulse) and Australian actress Tamala Shelton.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” when former thief Cat Chambers returns home to the Pacific island paradise known as The Reef, she finds herself in the center of a kidnapping, when the daughter of the island’s most prominent resident goes missing.

Meet Cat in paradise tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

Tonight two very different shows return to kick off new seasons.

First up, airing on both Syfy and USA Network, is the second season premiere of Krypton. In the first season, present-day Earthling Adam Strange traveled back in time to the planet Krypton to warn Seg-El – the future grandfather of Superman – of a pending attack by time-traveling super-villain Brainiac. If this Devourer of Worlds managed to destroy the planet, causing Superman to never be born, the Earth would be doomed. However, Kandor City was currently too distracted by a religious and political war that was going on – an underground rebellion known as Black Zero had formed against those in charge.

As the season came to a close, Brainiac finally arrived and started his attack on Kandor City. Dru-Zod, the future son of Lyta-Zod and Seg-El, had also traveled back in time to stop Braniac, but he had his own ulterior motives, desiring to rule over Krypton. He joined Black Zero, rising up the ranks, while awaiting Braniac’s arrival. Meanwhile, Seg-El’s grandfather Val-El, who was presumed dead, was actually alive and was rescued from the Phantom Zone by Dru-Zod; Jax-Ur revealed to Nyssa that she was in fact just a clone of the original Nyssa; and Doomsday escaped containment. During the big final showdown, Seg-El managed to trap Brainiac in the Phantom Zone, but he was pulled in as well. Dru-Zod destroyed the Phantom Zone gateway, trapping them both in there. He then seized control of Kandor City as well as most of the other Kryptonian City-States, declaring himself the leader. When Adam returned to Earth, he discovered a ruined city, with a giant statue of Zod.

The second season picks up 6 months later, as Zod continues to expand his empire. The others believe Seg-El is dead and don’t want his sacrifice to have been in vain. Even though Braniac has been stopped, the Earth still appears to be doomed. Can Adam and the resistance stop Zod’s evil plan to take over the world and fix things back to how they should be? Will they find a way to save Seg-El from the Phantom Zone? What does Nyssa’s revelation that she is a clone mean? And what does Doomsday’s escape pose another big danger? It looks like this will be another exciting season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Light-Years From Home,” Seg-El is stranded far from home, where his grandfather leads a rebellion against General Zod.

To see if Seg-El makes it home, tune in to Syfy and USA Network at 10/9c.

I’m super excited because another favorite game show that I used to watch reruns of all the time, Press Your Luck, is premiering tonight! If you don’t know this one, this game show’s contestants answer questions to earn spins and then use those spins on the “Big Board,” to win cash and other prizes. Unfortunately, the “WHAMMY” can get them. I don’t know how they’ll handle it now, but at least back in the day, the whammies were these cute little…elf-like creatures dressed in various costumes that walked across the TV screen and stole all the money if a contestant landed on them.

Elizabeth Banks is the new host. She’s been in a lot of things, but for me she’s most notably from Scrubs. I hope she’ll be a fun host and that they kept all the fun Whammies in their silly costumes and actions. I’ll definitely be tuning in!

Don’t miss tonight’s premiere on ABC at 10/9c**.

**Unless you’re like me in the Kansas City area, which won’t get to see it until midnight, due to the KC mayoral debate. Boo! LOL

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped, Blood & Treasure, Sweet Home Sextuplets, & Songland.

It’s a bit of a slow week in terms of shows we want to recommend (so much so that I may be the only one all week! 😉 ), but I’m super excited because almost every day this week, I get to recommend a game show (or two…or three…)! Yay! Tonight is all about ABC for me – the season premieres of: Celebrity Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey; The $100,000 Pyramid, hosted by Michael Strahan; & To Tell the Truth, hosted by Anthony Anderson – and his momma. The celebs play for charity on Feud, to help regular people on Pyramid, and just for the fun and friendly competition on Truth, but all of them are a lot of fun and just right for everyone to sit down and relax to.

On tonight’s episode of Celebrity Family Feud, “Team Teigen/Legend vs. Team Vanderpump Rules and Karamo Brown vs. Terry Crews,” songster John Legend and his wife, model/actress/TV personality Chrissy Teigen play for City Harvest against Lisa Vanderpump and friends for The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, and then it’s Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown and his family playing for OutRight Action International versus actor/TV personality Terry Crews and his family for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Then on The $100,000 Pyramid, it’s actress/comedian Rosie O’Donnell vs. actress Leslie Jones, followed in the second game by actress Cheryl Hines vs. actor/TV personality Anthony Anderson.

And finally on To Tell the Truth, the celebrity panel consists of Snoop Dogg, Oliver Hudson, Justin Long, and Amanda Seales. The panel is presented with a variety of participants with interesting stories, from someone saved by a humpback whale, to a professional mourner and a LEGO master builder.

To check out all the fun, tune in to ABC starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Great Food Truck Race & Ripley’s Believe It or Not! hosted by the great Bruce Campbell.
