conviction103smallTonight is another new drama that I’m excited to see: ABC’s Conviction. Hayley Atwell (Marvel’s Agent Carter) plays lawyer and former First Daughter Hayes Morrison, is caught using drugs and is offered a job from her sexy nemesis, NY District Attorney Conner Wallace (played by CSI: New York alum, Eddie Cahill). If she works with his team at the new Conviction Integrity Unit, which reexamines cases where there is a credible suspicion of wrongful conviction, she’ll avoid jail time and will avoid hurting her mother’s Senate campaign. She’s a party girl with a privileged upbringing who is offered a chance to turn her life around.

I was really excited about this show when I saw the trailer. I haven’t seen the pilot, so I have no idea if it’ll be any good or not, but I love the premise, and I love the cast. I didn’t watch Agent Carter, but Hayley Atwell is adorable and I’ve heard she was great in that. Eddie Cahill was one of my favs on CSI: New York, and the others are good too: Daniel Franzese (Looking & Recovery Road), Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead), Manny Montana (whom I recognize from Graceland), not to mention Merrin Dungey (Alias, Once Upon a Time) and Shawn Ashmore (The Following).

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” after joining the Conviction Integrity Unit, Hayes pushes the team to consider the case of Odell Dwyer, a handsome former high school football player who has been in prison for eight years for murdering his girlfriend.

Follow the leads tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

hawaiifiveo930smallLast week on Hawaii Five-0, there was a first for Five-0: a dead body inside their war room! The team went on the trail of a serial killer killing…well, serial killers and leaving these weird old chess pieces in their mouths. There was a great six-minute chase scene, where the bad guy was played by a guy who does parkour in real life, so there were all kinds of jumps and escapes that the team had to match – including Steve, who was JUST released from the hospital following the life-saving surgery and liver transplant from Danny. My favorite was the drop from balcony to balcony to get to the ground. I always love that. I couldn’t do it… Would scare me to death! The scariest part was when Steve got home and someone had left another chess piece for him. Dun dun dun! Surely that will come into play later…

On a personal front… No Adam yet for Kono, but I know he gets out this season and they get to restart their married lives. And Abby is supposedly in Hawaii full-time now as a member of HPD. Julie Benz is still listed as a guest star, so I don’t know how much we’ll see her. But I do hope we get to see some of her with Chin, because they’re adorable. Speaking of Chin… He and Sara (his dead wife’s niece – Gabriel’s daughter) are growing closer since Gabriel’s and her mother’s deaths, but the social worker called and said she’d found Sara’s aunt and uncle in Mexico, which means in less than a month, Sara will be leaving. I hope not. I kind of love how Chin is with her, and it gives him another good memory of his wife. I guess we’ll see what happens. And finally, where is Max? There’s a new medical examiner. Am I not remembering something from the finale last season? Did he take a sabbatical or quit or something??

On tonight’s episode, “No ke ali’i wahine a me ka ‘aina (For Queen or Country),” Five-0 must work with rogue MI-6 agent Harry Langford (guest star Chris Vance) to find a terrorist planning to cause nuclear reactors across Europe to meltdown. Also, McGarrett and Danny ask retired FBI profiler Alicia Brown (guest star Claire Forlani) to help them find their serial killer vigilante.

Catch all the action tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, Last Man Standing, MacGyver, Blue Bloods, & Van Helsing.

criminalminds928small
This season of Criminal Minds is going to look a little different than the past eleven. For one, Derek (Shemar Moore) retired from the FBI last season after his wife had a baby and he was held hostage by a bad guy. And second, after an altercation on set with a writer, Thomas Gibson was put on leave and then quickly fired, which means Hotch will only be in a couple (or few, I don’t know…) episodes. On a great note, though, the show rehired Paget Brewster as a series regular, which means Prentiss is back full-time! Also on board full-time as a series regular is Aisha Tyler (playing Dr. Tara Lewis) and new agent Luke Alvez, played by CSI: Miami vet Adam Rodriguez, who I loved on that show.

So who is taking over Hotch’s job as team leader? Some fans are suggesting Prentiss…and while that might work, I don’t see why Rossi isn’t the perfect person for the job – unless he doesn’t want it. Regardless, this season should be exciting as the team learns to work together and try to re-capture the serial killers who escaped from prison in the finale last season.

On tonight’s episode, “The Crimson King,” Agent Luke Alvez joins the BAU team, which is tasked with capturing a killer who escaped prison with 13 other convicts.

See how well the team works together tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot, The Goldbergs, Lethal Weapon, Speechless, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Whose Line is It Anyway?, Worst Cooks in America, black-ish, Chicago PD, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

aftermath927smallTonight, Syfy kicks off the new supernatural apocalyptic thriller, Aftermath. The people of Washington State find themselves under a constant barrage of catastrophic weather and phenomenons of biblical proportions. The news is overrun with stories of earthquakes, storms, rampant disease with zombie-like side effects, and missing people, plus warnings of approaching meteorites, a solar storm, and a Category-5 hurricane on the way. As the state issues an evacuation order, the Copeland family decides to bunker down and wait out the storm in their home. Patriarch Joshua (James Tupper, Men in Trees) is a university professor of religion, archaeology, and myth, his wife Karen (Anne Heche, Men in Trees) is a former member of the Air Force, and the couple has three children. Son Matt (Levi Meadon, Olympus) was a star high school athlete sidelined by a torn ACL, who now wants to join the Peace Corps. Seventeen-year-old fraternal twins Dana (Julia Sarah Stone, The Killing) and Briana (Taylor Hickson, Deadpool) couldn’t be more different – the latter being much more of a wild child than her more practical sister.

As the storm clears up, the Copelands exit their home to discover that all is not well – their front lawn is covered in dead fish like a Biblical plague; they are visited by some strangers whose strange behavior quickly becomes violent; and daughter Briana is abducted by a supernatural force. As Joshua tries to make sense of what he just witnessed, the family hops into their RV and heads toward the Army Reserve-controlled Quarantine Zone in neighboring Yakima, hoping to be reunited with their daughter there. But the more they witness, the more the Copelands realize the end of the world is upon them.

What is going on? Is there any hope for humanity? I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere – just as you think things are already weird enough, they get stranger and stranger! The action-packed series is like a blend of The Walking Dead with its zombie-like threat, Fear the Walking Dead which follows a family trying to survive at the outset of an outbreak, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers where you can’t really tell who has become one of the dangerous Feverheads. And add to this entertaining mix lots of other elements from apocalyptic, end-of-days, disaster, and survival films. The cast is great, and it was especially fun to see Men in Trees love interests (& real-life husband/wife) James Tupper and Anne Heche reunited as a married couple. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of this series, as it looks like it’s going to be a wild ride!

On tonight’s episode, “RVL 6768,” in the face of natural disasters, supernatural creatures, and a horrifying plague, the Copeland Family fights to survive the end of the world.

Witness the beginning of the end tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., This Is Us, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, Scream Queens, Halt and Catch Fire, and Chrisley Knows Best.

ncisla925smallToday is my favorite day of the entire TV season. Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration…but only slight! Tonight is the 2-hour season premiere of NCIS: LA, and it promises to be a good one! The LA branch of NCIS has been looking for a mole in the organization for a while now, and tonight it all comes to a head when higher-ups decide it’s time for someone else to be in charge and find the mole. How that will affect the team – and for how long – I don’t know. But something else that is affecting them is Daniela Ruah’s pregnancy. Kensi will be in every episode, but only because Daniela and (at least…) Eric (Deeks) filmed scenes in advance from each episode. Something huge happens with Kensi in this premiere, which keeps her out of the office/field for a while. I’m sure that means we’ll be seeing more of Nell in the field, partnered with Deeks, which should be a lot of fun. But it also means that this season should be an interesting one.

And don’t forget that because of football, Sunday shows on CBS tend to have erratic start times. CBS has tried to help by pushing everything back thirty minutes, which means shows will automatically start at 8:30/7:30c instead of 8/7c. But if you’re planning on recording NCIS: LA, Madam Secretary, or Elementary, I would make sure to record an hour or even two hours over, just to be sure you get it all. Trust me, I had to do that more than I’d like to remember the last few seasons!

On tonight’s two-hour premiere, “High-Value Target,” and “Belly of the Beast,” after NCIS fails to locate a mole in the department, Under Secretary of Defense Corbin Duggan (Jackson Hurst) insists on new leadership and takes over the Los Angeles unit from Hetty and Granger. Also, the team travels to Syria to apprehend a High Value Target, where one team member is severely injured when the mission goes awry.

See what happens when the office gets taken over and the team goes to Syria tonight on CBS at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, The Great Food Truck Race, Cooks vs Cons, & Quantico.
