younger331smallIt’s a busy night for me tonight, but one of the things I’m most excited about is the series premiere of Younger, on TV Land. This new romantic comedy stars Sutton Foster (Bunheads) as Liza, who goes back to work at age 40, only to find out she’s considered too old in her line of work, the competitive world of publishing. Her best friend Maggie (Debi Mazar, Entourage) convinces her to change her look and lie on her resume and pretend to be 26…and it works. Miriam Shor (GCB) plays Liza’s prickly boss Diana, while her new “friend” and coworker Kelsey is played by Hilary Duff. Meanwhile, Liza meets sexy tattoo artist Josh (played by Nico Tortorella, The Following) at a bar and tries to tell him how old she is, but…well, let’s just say that I wouldn’t be trying to hurry him out of my life either!

This seems like it’s going to be a good fit on TV Land. It’s not a show about teenagers. These are adults out in the real world, but the cast is still young and fun and the show looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. Sutton Foster is adorable, Debi Mazar is funny, Hilary Duff’s character seems great (from the previews I’ve seen), and eye candy Nico Tortorella sure won’t make it hard to watch. *laugh*

On tonight’s first episode, “Pilot,” a 40-year-old, single mother changes her look to get her dream job, but after passing for a woman in her mid-twenties, she must find a way to keep up the ruse. Then on “Liza Sows Her Oates,” Liza must make an aging writer’s work appealing to a younger audience; Liza goes on a great date with Josh but wants to look for a more age-appropriate partner.

Check out the 1-hour series premiere tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

cougartown16smallTonight is the final season premiere of the worst-named comedy on TV, Cougar Town. I love this show, and I’m both excited and saddened by tonight’s premiere. I’m excited because the show is really funny and because Travis & Laurie are having a baby. I’m sad because it’s the final season and because Bobby—Jules’s ex-husband & Travis’s dad—will leave the show after the premiere. The actor is “leaving to pursue other opportunities,” but how the character of Bobby Cobb will leave, I don’t have a clue. I’m sure he won’t die—talk about kill the rest of the season!—so maybe he gets a chance to tour for golf, or maybe he’s met a woman who wants him to travel with her… I just don’t know. I’m hoping he’ll be back for the series finale—or whenever Travis’s baby is born… I can’t see him missing his first grandchild’s birth. 🙁

On tonight’s episode, “American Dream Plan B,” Jules agrees to stop drinking wine during Laurie’s pregnancy, but the rest of the gang doesn’t agree, so Tom opens up his garage as a speakeasy. Meanwhile, Grayson prepares Travis for fatherhood with the help of a baby pig.

See how it goes for a sober Jules and how Bobby says goodbye to the Cul-de-Sac crew tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef: Junior, NCIS, The Little Couple, NCIS: NOLA, Chopped, Forever, Ground Floor, Person of Interest, & Restaurant Redemption.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/25/14

We’re well into the week now, and I’m happy because JJ’s back. He’s been working on his thesis proposal for school, but he finally got a break and it’s been accepted. Yay! So check out what he, Kyle, & I are recommending for tonight. 🙂

brooklyn99325smallOne of my favorite—if not THE favorite—new comedies this season has been Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The cast is phenomenal, the stories are great, and the humor is just spot-on. Last week, Amy announced that she was going away with her ex (and once again current) boyfriend, Teddy. Jake, who had been looking forward to the weekend off, suddenly decided he didn’t want to be sitting at home, so he recruited Terry into working with him to solved one of their old, unsolved cases. It didn’t look like they’d be able to, since it had been eight years and things had changed—buildings had been torn down, witnesses were gone, etc—but in the end, they figured out that the victim was actually still alive and had killed the husband of the woman he’d been seeing. Meanwhile, Amy had forgotten that she’d promised Holt that she’d help him out with something, and rather than tell him the truth that she’d forgotten and made plans with Teddy for a romantic getaway, she lied about having a tooth problem and needing to see the dentist. It backfired on her, though, when Holt dragged her that night to his brother-in-law, a dentist…and it turned out she had seven cavities, so she really DID need him.

Tonight is the season finale, and there are several balls still up in the air: Will Charles and Vivian move to Canada? (Answer: no, or at least, HE won’t…); Will Vivian move and therefore break off the engagement?; Will Jake tell Amy about his feelings for her? So much to wonder about!

On tonight’s episode, “Charges and Specs,” Jake’s investigation of philanthropic civic leader Lucas Wint (guest star Ian Roberts) is shut down by Commissioner Podalski (guest star James M. Connor). Still determined to crack the case, Jake enlists Amy and a reluctant Captain Holt to help him uncover more evidence, even if it means facing suspension. Meanwhile, Charles is devastated over pre-marital problems with Vivian, and Gina knows just how to cheer him up.

To see what questions get answered and what don’t, tune in to FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/18/14

Argh. As much as I’m enjoying watching ice skating (because let’s face it, that’s ALL I’m watching of the Olympics…), I want my shows back, darnit! It was great having Castle and Intelligence on last night, but I really wish NCIS and NCIS: LA were new tonight. That being said, there’s some good stuff on, so check out our recommendations.

cougartown218smallLast week, Cougar Town was all about the cul-de-sac garage sale, Jules and bad karma because she lied to customers during said garage sale, Andy being a garage sale hoarder and betting Ellie she couldn’t refrain from being snarky so he could collect a bunch more stuff, and Travis and Bobby overcoming their fear of roller coasters. There were a lot of great, funny scenes, but two of my favorites had to be Jules being too dang honest with the potential home buyers and then the car crashing into her office, and then at the end, when the whole gang showed up to support Bobby & Travis and then they ended up opening the urn during the ride and getting ashes all over everyone behind them. And of course, we lost Big Tippi, the wine “glass” Jules got while in L.A. We were introduced to Big Chuck, which is just an even bigger flower vase and even more ridiculous. Lots of laughs every week for this show!

On tonight’s episode, “Time to Move On,” with Travis graduating college in a few months, Jules starts to worry about his job prospects with an art degree. Laurie and Ellie pose as a couple in a desperate effort to get Stan into a fancy new school. Meanwhile, Andy insists on making a cat video with the guys for Bro-day.

See if Laurie and Ellie can pull off couple-dom tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Killer Women.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/7/14

I’m so glad I’m not in Minnesota. Their highs right now are like -15° to -20°F! Isane, I tell ya. Another thing I’m glad about is that my new laptop SHOULD be here tomorrow. Yay! 😀 And finally, I’m also thrilled that TV is back because there’s a ton of stuff on tonight—including one I’ve been looking forward to most since last summer when I saw the screener: Intelligence. That’s my first pick, so check out our recommendations! 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

intelligence17smallAs I said, Intelligence was the show I’ve been looking forward to most for months. The show is about a high-tech intelligence operative (Josh Holloway, Lost) who is enhanced with a super-computer microchip in his brain. With it, he’s connected to to everything: Internet, WiFi, telephone & satellite data… It’s like…Chuck & Jake 2.0, but not. Leading his team is Marg Helgenberger (CSI), and his partner/“bodyguard” is Meghan Ory (Ruby/Red Riding Hood, Once Upon a Time). He can hack into any data center and access key intel in the fight to protect the United States from its enemies.

I wasn’t a fan of Lost, so Josh Holloway wasn’t someone I’ve seen a lot of, but he’s super sexy and so much fun to watch in this pilot. And it’s great having Marg Helgenberger back on TV after she left CSI. Other members of the cast include James Martinez, John Billingsley, PJ Byrne, & Michael Rady.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Gabriel and Riley must rescue the kidnapped member of CyberCom who invented the chip implanted in Gabriel’s brain before the top-secret technology falls into the wrong hands. Meanwhile, Gabriel takes advantage of his chip to search for his wife who disappeared years ago.

See if this new science fiction drama is for you tonight on CBS at 9/8c.
