My favorite new show of the season by far is The Brave. I love the cast and their chemistry, I love the cases and story lines, and overall, it is just the one show that most makes me want to sit and watch ASAP each week – even more so than most of the returning shows! Last week’s episode was a lot of fun. A Russian drone crashed near the Mongolia/China border, and they quickly figured out that it was so technologically advanced that it had been flown over the northwest corner of the US without our notice, only able to realize it after. So Dalton’s team was deployed (they had to parachute in because they were going to be there in secret, not alerting the Mongolian authorities) to get to it before the Russians could retrieve it, in order to allow us to get a sample of the “skin” used so we could update our systems so things using the “skin” would be seen by our radar.

When they got there, they came across the village that the Russians had already beaten them to – killing many and burning out their huts. After gaining the villagers’ trust and helping tend to a wounded young man, they learned where the drone had gone down. Unfortunately, it was on the China side of the border, which meant they had to go in dark – no comms, etc. After a lot of action and Dalton nearly getting caught and shot, they were able to make it back with a good-sized sample of the skin, no worse for the wear. It was pretty awesome. I especially liked how Patricia faked out the Russian guy who was spying on her when she went to meet with her friend – who he assumed was from the Chinese government.

Back early in the season, at the end of the episode, we watched a man drive a truck onto the beach where the team had been hanging out with and playing soccer with a bunch of kids and families. We didn’t hear much in the next episode, although it was mentioned, but I knew that had to come up again. Then in a later episode, the team was up against a bad guy and rather than kill him, they bugged him in order to gain future intel. Both of those things come up again this week in the fall finale. It should be exciting!

On tonight’s episode, “Desperate Times,” after embarking on mission after mission to keep the world safe, the team is confronted with a task that hits close to home. When things go sideways, the only option is to risk one of their own for their final shot to settle the personal score.

See if the entire team makes it out alive tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, Man With a Plan, Holiday Baking Championship, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, Christmas Cookie Challenge, & Scorpion.

MythBusters finally returns to kick off its 14-episode 20th season. Earlier this year, Science Channel aired the reality competition series MythBusters: The Search to find replacements for longtime hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. The winners of this competition were New York product designer Jon Lung and Texan biologist/master builder Brian Louden (and his dog Bo). Tonight the new guys take over the duties of the MythBusters by tackling some fun new myths.

Even though the series has a pair of new hosts, the show still has the same fun look and feel that it always has – it really helps that the narrator is still the same. The format of the series also remains exactly same, with the episode jumping back and forth between the two different myths being explored. New hosts Jon and Brian have great chemistry and play off one another well. They both bring a nice blend of technical expertise and humor. While watching tonight’s premiere, I never found myself comparing these new hosts to Jamie and Adam – it just felt like I was watching yet another entertaining episode of MythBusters. I’m really glad this show is back!

On tonight’s premiere, “Heads Will Roll,” the MythBusters put an exploding airbag to the ultimate test and tackle an epic movie myth using a rocket-powered sword.

See how the new hosts stack up tonight on Science Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Goldbergs, Speechless, Modern Family, American Housewife, Designated Survivor, Survivor, The Blacklist, Riverdale, You’re the Worst, Stan Against Evil, The Shannara Chronicles, and Mr. Robot.

I’m excited because A) it’s post-Halloween and B) shows like Holiday Baking Championship & Christmas Cookie Challenge are starting tonight. Add those up, and it means it’s the start of the holiday season! Thanksgiving in a few weeks and then Christmas a month later… It makes my heart happy. Lots of quality family time, great food, smiles… What isn’t to love about all that? And that’s why Food Network is my pick tonight for what you should watch.

Nine new bakers are competing in the Holiday Baking Championship to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Chanukah. Jesse Palmer returns as host, while Duff Goldman, Nancy Fuller, and Lorraine Pascale are back as the judges. The contestants will make everything from a candy cane dessert to a fruitcake and more in order to win a $50,000 grand prize and the title of Holiday Baking Champion.

On tonight’s episode, “Holiday Party Delights,” to kick things off, nine bakers must create eye-catching and tantalizing new holiday treats for seasonal parties. In the pre-heat, bakers create a dessert with an unusual candy cane flavor, and then, for the main heat, they use a holiday cocktail as sweet inspiration. One unlucky baker goes home.

Christmas Cookie Challenge is new this season, with host Eddie Jackson (winner of Food Network Star) and lead judge Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman on Food Network). More like Chopped than Holiday Baking Championship, each episode will feature five talented cookie makers who compete in two challenges, the winner of which will walk away with a $10,000 prize each week. There will be a rotating panel of guest judges joining Ree Drummond, including Damiano Carrara, Dan Langan, Jamika Pessoa, Aarti Sequeira, and more.

On tonight’s episode, “Christmas Family Fun,” first up is the decorating challenge where the bakers craft two different decorated Christmas tree cookies, and two bakers go home. The remaining three finalists are “puzzled” by the display challenge, where they must create a giant cookie puzzle based on a Christmas carol.

Check out both shows tonight on Food Network starting at 9/8.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, The Gifted, 9JKL, Scorpion, & The Brave.

There were several shows I was most looking forward to this season, all of which have the same feel and are in similar genres – The Brave & SEAL Team being the first two. The third? CBS’s S.W.A.T., starring Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds). The show comes from Shawn Ryan (if you were a fan of The Unit, Chicago Code, or The Shield, you’ll know the name), so I knew automatically between him and Shemar Moore, I’d have to check it out. Moore stars as a locally born SWAT sergeant, former Marine, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, who is tasked suddenly to run the SWAT unit he’s a part of. Being raised in the area of LA that he was, Hondo has a tie to the community that the others don’t, and he hopes to be able to bridge the gap between his community and the cops.

His team includes: David “Deacon” Kay (Jay Harrington, Better Off Ted), an experienced SWAT officer; Christina “Chris” Alonso (Lina Esco, Cane, Open), a skilled officer & the team’s canine trainer; Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson, Secrets & Lies, Bates Motel, & a whole host of guest spots on shows), an expert driver; Victor Tan (David Lim, Quantico), a relatively new SWAT officer who regularly uses his confidential informants in the community to help the team; and Jim Street (Alex Russell), a cocky but promising new member of the group. Jessica Cortez (Stephanie Sigman, The Arrangement ) oversees the unit as the captain of LA Metro, and Jeff Mumford (Peter Onorati, Murder in the First & a bunch of guest spots) leads another LA-based unit who has an intense rivalry with Hondo’s team. And finally, Louis Ferreira (whom I loved on Motive) is a recurring character with kind of a sad story line.

I have seen a handful of episodes so far of this show, and I really enjoy it. I liked it more and more each episode as I got to know the characters. There’s plenty of action, drama, and even a little romance to boot, so it’s got something for everyone. I hope you’ll give it a chance!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” a locally born SWAT sergeant, former Marine Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is newly tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles.

Don’t miss the exciting premiere tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Chopped, Impractical Jokers, Will & Grace, Great News, Beat Bobby Flay, & Chicago Fire.

The majority of Sandstorm, including leader Shepherd, went down in last season’s finale. Top people from the government gathered in the Secret Service bunker, thinking it was the good guys, but it turned out the guy running the whole show was working for Shepherd. Weller worked with another guy to take the guy down and get back to FBI headquarters. Thankfully, the team was able to stop Shepherd’s ultimate plan to destroy the entire Eastern seaboard, including the White House, which was going to be holding a full cabinet meeting. Jane and Weller arrested her and took over the ambulance that held the nuclear material. After fighting Roman and zapping the GPS thing that was leading more nuclear material toward the White House and allowing Patterson to take control of it…the US was safe, Sandstorm was taken down, but Jane allowed Roman to escape because she couldn’t bring herself to shoot him. The team celebrated 24 hours later, although several of them were questioning whether or not they wanted to stay with the FBI. Then Jane showed up, and she and Weller…well, I love yous were finally exchanged on both sides and they officially became a couple.

Of course, then in true Blindspot fashion, we flash forwarded two years (although the episode description for tonight says 18 months…so…). Jane was climbing up some cliff and then talking with a monk, who told her it was time to go home. Then at her temporary home (a tent), SURPRISE! It was Weller…who was wearing a RING that Jane seemed shocked and happy to see. It seemed like a happy reunion, but we got no explanation for why they were apart and why he was wearing a ring, because he then informed her that Zapata, Reade, and Patterson had all been kidnapped. He had a small metal thing that, when both of them put their fingers on it, lit up with the image of a bird that corresponded with the tattoo on Jane’s neck. When they put the metal up next to the tattoo, every tattoo on her body lit up like they were under a black light. Then the episode faded to black.

What the heck? What happened in that two years (or 18 months…) after they took down Shepherd? Who has Zapata, Reade, & Patterson? And why the heck are Jane’s tattoos GLOWING?! I can’t wait to find out starting with tonight’s premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Back to the Grind,” eighteen months after parting ways under mysterious circumstances, the FBI team is brought back together by a new crisis.

See if we get any answers tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MacGyver & Blue Bloods.
