themiddle1118smallI always enjoy holiday-themed episodes of family sitcoms, and tonight, Thanksgiving comes to the ABC Wednesday comedy lineup in both The Middle and The Goldbergs. The Middle has had a Thanksgiving episode every season, and they’re not going to break that tradition this year. The Hecks’ past Thanksgiving adventures have included Brick getting lost in a corn maze, Mike reconciling with his brother, Frankie and her sister spending the holiday at their parents’ house, Marines joining the Hecks for the meal, and a surprise visit from Dr. Goodwin and Uncle Rusty’s wife and kids. And last year, the Hecks headed to a restaurant buffet for the holiday, where Sue, Brick, and Axl all brought dates – though Axl’s date was a girl he didn’t even know.

So what does the holiday hold for the Hecks this year? Will they find themselves hosting more surprise guests? Will they spend the day together? Or will they each have different crazy situations to deal with? You can bet that no matter what happens, they’ll all come together by the end to celebrate the spirit of the holiday!

On tonight’s episode, “Thanksgiving VII,” the Hecks decide to forgo Thanksgiving when Frankie must pick up a holiday position as an overworked woman from the 19th-century; Sue goes back to work at Spudsy’s in hopes of running into Logan; and Axl becomes emotional over how his life’s turning out. Meanwhile, Mike and Brick bond during a power outage.

See all the Thanksgiving family fun tonight on ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, Arrow, Supernatural, American Horror Story: Hotel, The League, and You’re the Worst.

chicagomed1117smallOne of the shows I’ve been looking forward to most this fall is Chicago Med. We’ve already seen several members of the cast of this latest spinoff from Chicago Fire on that and Chicago PD. The show takes place in one of Chicago’s busiest hospital, Chicago Med. They’ll tackle new cases inspired by topical events and form relationships within the chaos of the emergency room. We’ll also see familiar faces from the Chicago police and fire departments, which is always fun. There’s an amazing cast: Oliver Platt (Fargo, The Big Huff & more), S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order – I miss Lt. Van Buren!), Nick Gehlfuss (who we’ve seen many times now on Chicago PD as Jay’s brother!), Brian Tee (multiple episodes of Hawaii Five-0 & Crash), Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill), Colin Donnell (The Affair, Arrow), Yaya DaCosta (Chicago Fire, Ugly Betty, All My Children), & Rachel DiPillo (Jane the Virgin, The Gates, Big Time Rush).

One reason I’m excited about this is because I’m looking forward to having another medical show on that isn’t a primetime soap (*cough*Gray’s Anatomy*). In fact, in an interview on TVLine.com, they said, “We want to [be] much more in the ER and St. Elsewhere model than Grey’s Anatomy. It’s not going to be a pure soap by any stretch of the imagination, but there will be a lot of character storylines and emotional entanglements. We want to be telling cutting-edge stories about ethical conundrums and the state of medicine and health care in America today.” Check out the interview and the pictures. There’s some great info. (But beware of spoilers!)

On tonight’s episode, “Derailed,” the emergency department’s grand opening is interrupted by an onslaught of crash victims, pushing hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin and her staff to their limits as they frantically work to triage and treat patients. It’s all hands on deck as newly hired trauma surgeon Dr. Connor Rhodes, pregnant pediatrics specialist Dr. Natalie Manning, third-year resident Dr. Will Halstead, military-trained Dr. Ethan Choi, nurse April Sexton, and head of psychiatry Dr. Daniel Charles must pull together to save lives. Rounding out the team is medical student Sarah Reese, who quickly learns some of the hard lessons that come with life in the Emergency Department. Marlyne Barrett, David Eigenberg, Kara Killmer, and Jesse Lee Soffer guest star.

Meet the new team in Chicago tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped Junior, Grandfathered, NCIS, MasterChef Canada, NCIS: NOLA, & Chicago Fire.

bluebloods1113smallWeek after week, the Regan family on Blue Bloods show us what real family bonds look like and they help keep New York safe at the same time. Last week, we saw as the DA put Erin on the case of the cops being arrested for tampering with records. Eddie got arrested for making a parking violation disappear. Erin didn’t want the case, and Frank definitely didn’t want her working it, but she needed to prove to the entire office that she doesn’t take sides, even for her father. In the end, Erin worked things out, and hopefully from now on, the police and the District Attorney’s office will work in unison. I don’t blame the family for being upset about Erin being on the case, but at the same time I understand that she didn’t have a choice. I’m glad it all looks like it’s going to work out for the best.

On tonight’s episode, “Unsung Heroes,” when Danny and his family are threatened by Thomas Wilder, a serial killer Danny has been unable to apprehend, Linda’s concern intensifies over her husband’s job as well as the state of their marriage. Also, Jamie challenges his superior officer, Sgt. William Mulvey, during a hostage situation.

To see if Linda and Danny can work this problem out, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Amazing Race, Hawaii Five-0, Grimm, and MasterChef: Junior.

chicagofire1110smallI’m a sucker for emotional moments on a show while it still has moments of excitement. Chicago Fire has had all those moments lately, moving it to the top of my must-see list quickly. Last week, we watched as Casey and Dawson lost their baby after she was rushed into surgery for a miscarriage and internal bleeding. It was heartbreaking to watch, but I loved the end, where Casey assured Dawson that they were back together because he loved her and needed her, not because of the baby. On the arson case, the missing files were recovered, and it was discovered that it was Duff who had stolen the files because he needed money. His guilt caused him to try to commit suicide, but Severide saved his life. Through this all, we got to see the firehouse yet again band together to take care of each other, showing us all why this is the house to be in. As a side note, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD were both renewed for next season yesterday. Yay!

On tonight’s episode, “Regarding this Wedding,” after a fire ruins a neighborhood wedding, Boden steps up to host the ceremony at the firehouse. That’s much to the chagrin of his boss, Chief Riddle, whose political aspirations have caused friction from within the firehouse. Meanwhile, Dawson, who returns to the house, also butts heads with Riddle over her ability to perform and is forced to defend herself despite Boden’s support. Severide finds himself fighting for his way back to his old position, and Capt. Patterson is caught between loyalty toward leadership and loyalty to his colleagues.

To see if Boden can stand against the powers that be to maintain his house, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching NCIS, NCIS: NOLA, Chopped, The Voice, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scream Queens, Limitless, and Wicked City.

blindspot119smallMy pick tonight is Blindspot. For someone who doesn’t like conspiracies in my TV shows, it’s amazing that I love this one as much as I do, since it is almost nothing BUT conspiracies! Last week, Weller, Jane, and his team went up to the back country to an address Patterson deciphered from one of Jane’s tattoos. There, they found a bad man (played by Lou Diamond Phillips, who I ADORE) connected to Mayfair. They had to follow even more clues and tattoos to get out of there alive after the militia (or whatever they technically were) hunted them down and shot at them. At the end of the map, they found a helicopter, which Jane knew how to fly. Meanwhile, Patterson’s boyfriend couldn’t keep his nose to himself, so while he ended up helping her to solve one of the tattoos, Mayfair caught them. Not only did she have the tattoo images out of the FBI building, but she’d told him about them, which was a no-no. So she was in big trouble. Mayfair said this was her one mistake, so she wasn’t fired, but because of it, she broke up with her boyfriend after he’d just convinced her to let him move in.

So now Weller knows something isn’t on the up-and-up with Mayfair. Will he find out more details this week, and if he does, will he share with Jane or the others? And now that Jane and Weller have begun to admit their feelings for one another are more than professional, will that continue?

On tonight’s episode, “Persecute Envoys,” after a police officer is murdered, Patterson unlocks a disturbing tattoo that appears to have predicted his killing, and the team chases a violent clue trail to stop further attacks. Mayfair reveals secrets from her past to Weller, seriously testing their relationship.

See if the team can stop the attacks tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped, Supergirl, Cake Wars, Major Crimes, Scorpion, NCIS: LA, & Castle.
