Kyle and I differ on when Netflix (as well as Amazon & Hulu) shows should be posted. For me, I’m recommending this one tonight because it premieres in the late hours of the night tonight/wee hours of the morning. That way you can watch it first thing when you wake up (or at 3AM if you can’t sleep! LOL).

On that note, my first pick is Friends from College, which premieres the entire first season on Netflix. Keegan-Michael Key (Playing House, Key & Peele), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Annie Parisse (The Following, Law & Order), Nat Faxon (Ben & Kate, Married), Fred Savage (The Grinder), & Jae Suh Park star as a group of friends from Harvard who are about to turn forty years old. They must balance old friendships, former romantic entanglements, and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.

With Facebook bringing high school and college friends back together, I think this show is very timely. I think a lot of people will be able to relate, and with such a great cast, I have high hopes that it’ll be a lot of fun to watch for everyone.

Check out the entire first season on Netflix tonight/Friday morning at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.

Lucifer has been heating up episode by episode, and it’s all about to come to a head. Last week’s episode, we watched Maze and Lucifer fight it out about how Lucifer has not been honest with Maze concerning the reasons behind him trying to get back to heaven. Maze was hurt because Lucifer didn’t come to her with the plan and her part in it. They fought in the streets, and both of them ended up pretty banged up.

Also in the episode, Charlotte was slowly coming unraveled, quite literally, where light was spewing out of her body. She accidentally killed someone when he stabbed her and the light came pouring out. Hopefully, her sons can get her under control before she kills anyone else.

On tonight’s season finale, “The Good, The Bad, and the Crispy,” after Charlotte accidentally charbroils a man to death in self-defense, Lucifer must try and keep Chloe from figuring out the truth. Lucifer puts Maze in charge of finding Charlotte and Amenadiel, who have both gone missing in light of recent circumstances, while he finds a permanent solution for the ticking time bomb he calls Mom.

To see how Lucifer deals with his mother, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Still Star-Crossed.

[Just a side note before you read my pick for tonight… This episode touches on a hot-button issue, especially right now, after the horrific attack in Manchester a couple of days ago. My thoughts and prayers are going out to all those affected, in Manchester and around the world.]

There are some story lines that bother me more than others. Last week’s Law & Order: SVU was one of those. Christians are often portrayed as crazy, religious zealots, and this was one of those cases. A group of young church-goers was visiting New York, and one of the young women met up with an old friend she hadn’t seen since she’d moved to NYC. That friend was a lesbian, and the church girl was attracted to her, although her parents, church leader, and other members of the group did their damnedest to convince her otherwise. It went so far that another member raped her, although he (& his lawyer & the victim’s family & the other church group members) claimed that it was curative intercourse – supposed to help bring her back to God and away from homosexual thoughts. Even though she told him no at the time, they claim she wanted it. The poor girl was being pulled in so many different directions and was so confused. And even though Lucas was the one who raped her, I’m not so sure he’s not just as confused and blindfolded to the true bad guy, the church leader, who had everyone snowed. They finally decided to go after the reverend. Lucas admitted to having been caught with a boy by the reverend, and then they figured out the revered was paying boys like Lucas for the “curative intercourse.” It just… Argh. In the end, the reverend pled guilty to stop them from calling in the Feds, who would seize all his and his church’s money.

So from one strong story to another… Tonight’s episodes focus on Muslims and deportation and hate crimes. From the frying pan into the fire, I guess. LOL They’re ending the season with a bang, that’s for sure! Will everyone survive, and how will their friendships and working relationships fare?

On tonight’s first episode, “American Dream,” a hate crime against a Muslim family results in the death of their daughter. When a crucial witness in the case is deported, Barba is forced to drop the charges against a suspect, and tensions rise between communities on opposing sides of the case.

Then on the season finale, “Sanctuary,” the unexpected release of a suspect in a hate crime case leaves Benson and Barba caught between two families seeking justice for their loved ones. As public protests escalate to violence, Benson goes to desperate lengths to make an arrest.

To see what lengths Benson goes to tonight, tune in to NBC starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Bakers vs Fakers & Cooks vs Cons.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is always so much fun, and last week was a prime example. Who else loved meeting Capt. Holt’s mother? LOL The Honorable Laverne Holt was basically just Raymond Holt as a slightly shorter, slightly older female. They talked the same, thought the same, and reacted the same to everything. Really hysterical. Jake got the honor (only after Amy let her nerves and excitement get the better of her and reacted to the chance to help by dorking out…) of helping when Mrs. Holt’s apartment was robbed. He and Capt. Holt figured out it was robbed while she was at Wine Club, and they went undercover at the next meeting. When the apartment that Jake gave the address of to the hostess was broken into, he realized it was the hostess and her boyfriend, and they were arrested. Of course, the best story line for that episode was Capt. Holt realizing his mother was dating and she hadn’t told him. He reacted more strongly than we’ve ever seen him – stopping the car in the middle of the road, getting out, and calmly walking away. LOL The side stories of Terry, Charles, and Rosa remodeling the breakroom was great (what the heck was their remodel, anyway? Crazy… LOL), as was Scully and Hitchcock’s reaction to it. Needless to say, seeing them rubbing all over the new couch and stuff was…vaguely disturbing!

Then in the second episode, Jake and Rosa got involved in a case with their idol, Lieutenant Melanie Hawkins. Unfortunately, the show dealt a huge shocker to Jake (& presumably Rosa, although we didn’t see her reaction), right after they were invited to be on her team, when they learned that Lieutenant Hawkins is a dirty cop. Instead of actually looking for the bank robbers like they are supposed to be…they ARE the bank robbers. Eek! My favorite part of that episode, though, was Scully and Hitchcock fighting like little boys after Scully blew off Hitchcock for their weekly brunch or whatever in order to spend time with his new girlfriend. They had a ranch dressing fight (ew. LOL), called each other names, and basically acted like babies. Nothing Charles or Terry could do would make a dent in their fighting. Finally, Gina came in and said they were acting like animals so they needed to be treated like animals. When she yelled and clapped her hands at them, then gave them treats after they apologized, it worked perfectly. LOL

So now that Jake and Rosa know Hawkins is dirty, will they try to take her down in tonight’s double-episode finale? Of course they will. You couldn’t expect anything less, could you? Things won’t go as planned, I promise. I’ve seen both episodes, and they truly live up to the fun and excitement, as well as the jaw-dropping moments of shock and surprise that Brooklyn Nine-Nine likes to fling at the viewers on their finales. LOL

On tonight’s episodes, “The Bank Job/Crime & Punishment,” after discovering a dangerous secret, Jake and Rosa call for back-up from Holt and Pimento (guest star Jason Mantzoukas). Meanwhile, Boyle objects to Gina’s new boyfriend (guest star Ryan Phillipe). Then, Jake and Rosa are framed for a crime they didn’t commit, it’s up to the Nine-Nine to find a way to bust them out. Gina Gershon also guest stars.

Find out what happens with Jake and Rosa and why Boyle objects to Gina’s new boyfriend tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped Junior, Great News, Prison Break, & Chopped.

There are so many things on tonight that I want to recommend that I had trouble even narrowing it down to two… So I picked the two that I’m most excited about or knew I’d enjoy the most. First up is the double episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This show always, ALWAYS makes me laugh. Last week, we first got to see the Nine-Nine go to Cop-Con, which was pretty much what it sounded like: Comic-Con for cops, with presentations, gadgets, etc, all geared toward law enforcement. The group has always used the time to party and let off some steam, but this year, Captain Holt asked them to be on their best behavior since he was trying for a position on some board of law enforcement officers. So the team decided they’d still party (even opting to host it themselves when the group who usually threw the big party was arrested! LOL), but they’d do it on the down-low. Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite as planned. Holt’s laptop was stolen by his biggest rival and his presentation messed with – surprise, surprise!

Then on the second episode, Amy was studying for the Sergeant’s exam, but as always, she was obsessing and freaking out…so much so that she was ready to quit. I loved how Jake tracked her down by getting into her shoes, prompted by Rosa. When he finally cornered her on the rooftop from “The Bet,” she admitted that she was worried because their relationship might change. Jake was very sweet and said even if it did, they’d get through it. And there was also some great stuff with Capt. Holt and Terry, basically competing to see who could build the “best” model train set – best being the operative word. Capt. Holt thought the best one was accurate down to the most minute detail, while Terry let his imagination fly. It was pretty funny to see the little boy come in and scoff at both, asking where the video games were. As the mother of a young man who was a little boy not so long ago, I can totally relate!

I’ve seen tonight’s double episode, and I have to say they’re some of my favorites in a while. For one, we meet Capt. Holt’s mother. Yes, you read that right: WE MEET HIS MOTHER, who is basically a slightly older, slightly more feminine version of Capt. Holt himself. LMAO And second, we get more Jake/Rosa stuff, which is always fun. Finally, we see something we’ve never seen before when Scully and Hitchcock are not only at odds but almost knock-down-drag-out fighting. Fun!

On tonight’s double episode, “Your Honor/The Slaughterhouse,” Captain Holt’s mom (guest star L. Scott Caldwell) seeks support from the precinct after her house is robbed. Meanwhile, Terry, Rosa and Boyle remodel the breakroom and Amy teaches Gina how to change her own car tire. Then, Jake and Rosa try to earn the respect of their idol, Lieutenant Melanie Hawkins (guest star Gina Gershon), while Charles, Terry and Gina test different parenting methods to resolve a conflict between Scully and Hitchcock.

Meet Mrs. Holt tonight on FOX at 8/7c.
