freakishsmallToday Hulu launches its latest original series Freakish. As the thriller opens, a group of diverse teenagers find themselves at the high school on a Saturday for various reasons – detention, sports, music, computers, etc. When there’s an explosion at the local chemical plant, a mysterious blanketing haze quickly makes its way towards the school, bringing with it a zombie-like disease. The students and limited faculty head for the building’s basement shelter, but there are limited supplies and some of the students get antsy and want to leave to check on their family members. However, they soon discover that a horde of mutant freaks is trying to break into the school to feast on them. Trapped, the students must fight for their survival and hope for someone to come to their rescue before it’s too late.

While most Hulu original series are released week-to-week, all ten episodes of the first season of Freakish are available for streaming today! I’ve seen the first 3 episodes, and it’s great to see they are going with the Netflix model for this series. It’s perfect for binging, as the story plays out like one long film, and you’re going to want to just keep continuing from one episode to the next! There are several twists and turns, and many students seem to have something to hide or seem to know more about what’s going on than they’re originally letting on. My initial reaction to the episodes I watched was that it was The Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes in the remaining episodes.

Freakish comes from AwesomenessTV, which started as a YouTube channel, and the production company sticks to its roots by casting a lot of YouTube and Vine stars, including Melvin Gregg, Meghan Rienks, Liza Koshy, and Hayes Grier. However, the series also includes more experienced actors, like Leo Howard (Kickin’ It) and Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, Arrow, The Expanse).

Binge watch all ten episodes of this fun new series now on Hulu.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Timeless, Gotham, Lucifer, and Supergirl.

littlebigshotssmallI love Steve Harvey as the host on Family Feud, so I’m hoping as host of the new kids’ competition-reality show Little Big Shots, he’ll be just as great. He’s not only hosting, but he’s a producer, along with Ellen DeGeneres, which I hope bodes well for how fun it’ll be. The show features young kids of all ages with every kind of talent – from musicians, singers, and dancers, to a 4-year-old basketball whiz, a 5-year-old Bruce Lee, and more. As host, Steve Harvey will chat with the kids, which should prove pretty darn funny, as kids always say the silliest things.

On tonight’s episode, “Little Bruce Lee,” we meet a 4-year-old basketball prodigy, a 5-year-old martial arts master, a singing duo, a spelling-bee champion, and a sassy dancer.

Meet this week’s talented kiddos tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Team Ninja Warrior, Grandfathered, The Real O’Neals, Junk Food Flip, The Little Couple, Rizzoli & Isles, Chopped, Rattled, & Separation Anxiety.

greatholidaybakingshowsmallI love cooking competition shows – that’s no shocker. One of my favorites is The Great British Baking Show and its various “sister shows.” We’ve seen a version of it in the US already, but tonight is the series premiere of The Great Holiday Baking Show on ABC. Six home bakers will compete in three challenges, with one baker being sent home, each week. The judges for this series are Mary Berry (England’s “Royal Queen of Baking,” author and television personality), who judges the British versions, and James Beard Award-Winning pastry chef and author, Johnny Iuzzini. And hosting this series are husband and wife duo Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) & Ian Gomez (Cougar Town).

I’ve seen the premiere, and I gotta say I love all the hosts and judges. I adore Nia and Ian, who I’ve enjoyed watching on a few episodes of Celebrity Name Game), and Mary and Johnny are fun judges. As always, this is going to be a fun four weeks of great baking!

On tonight’s episode, “Cookie Week,” the bakers compete in three challenges: Signature Bake, showcasing their family recipes as they create two sets of Christmas cookies that are both delicious and unique; Technical Bake, a surprise recipe where they must demonstrate precision and technique; and finally, the Showstopper Bake, where the bakers are asked to create elaborate flavorful gingerbread houses.

See the fun and flavorful cookies the bakers bake tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, Cake Wars, Major Crimes, Guilty Pleasures, Superstore, & Top 5 Restaurants.

chicagomed1117smallOne of the shows I’ve been looking forward to most this fall is Chicago Med. We’ve already seen several members of the cast of this latest spinoff from Chicago Fire on that and Chicago PD. The show takes place in one of Chicago’s busiest hospital, Chicago Med. They’ll tackle new cases inspired by topical events and form relationships within the chaos of the emergency room. We’ll also see familiar faces from the Chicago police and fire departments, which is always fun. There’s an amazing cast: Oliver Platt (Fargo, The Big Huff & more), S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order – I miss Lt. Van Buren!), Nick Gehlfuss (who we’ve seen many times now on Chicago PD as Jay’s brother!), Brian Tee (multiple episodes of Hawaii Five-0 & Crash), Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill), Colin Donnell (The Affair, Arrow), Yaya DaCosta (Chicago Fire, Ugly Betty, All My Children), & Rachel DiPillo (Jane the Virgin, The Gates, Big Time Rush).

One reason I’m excited about this is because I’m looking forward to having another medical show on that isn’t a primetime soap (*cough*Gray’s Anatomy*). In fact, in an interview on TVLine.com, they said, “We want to [be] much more in the ER and St. Elsewhere model than Grey’s Anatomy. It’s not going to be a pure soap by any stretch of the imagination, but there will be a lot of character storylines and emotional entanglements. We want to be telling cutting-edge stories about ethical conundrums and the state of medicine and health care in America today.” Check out the interview and the pictures. There’s some great info. (But beware of spoilers!)

On tonight’s episode, “Derailed,” the emergency department’s grand opening is interrupted by an onslaught of crash victims, pushing hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin and her staff to their limits as they frantically work to triage and treat patients. It’s all hands on deck as newly hired trauma surgeon Dr. Connor Rhodes, pregnant pediatrics specialist Dr. Natalie Manning, third-year resident Dr. Will Halstead, military-trained Dr. Ethan Choi, nurse April Sexton, and head of psychiatry Dr. Daniel Charles must pull together to save lives. Rounding out the team is medical student Sarah Reese, who quickly learns some of the hard lessons that come with life in the Emergency Department. Marlyne Barrett, David Eigenberg, Kara Killmer, and Jesse Lee Soffer guest star.

Meet the new team in Chicago tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped Junior, Grandfathered, NCIS, MasterChef Canada, NCIS: NOLA, & Chicago Fire.

theflash106smallI’m really excited for the return of The Flash tonight. In this era of the dark, brooding superhero, it was great to see this series take the opposite approach and just have fun. When the first season left off, Wells had given Barry Allen the chance to go back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. While Barry debated the pros and cons of this unique opportunity, Caitlin and Ronnie got married, with their wedding officiated by Doctor Stein. Ultimately, Barry did go back in time, but just to say good-bye, instead of messing with the unknown consequences of changing the past. However, his trip caused a dangerous wormhole to appear. Eddie, knowing that Barry was predestined to end up with Iris, decided to kill himself in order to stop Thawne from being born and end his evil reign. However, this didn’t stop the deadly wormhole, and now a black hole was looming overhead.

How will Barry use his powers to prevent the destruction of Central City? Is Thawne really dead, and will Eddie’s sacrifice cause anything to change? What will happen to S.T.A.R. Labs without Harrison Wells around? What new meta-humans will Barry and his gang come up against this season? I’m looking forward to another fun, action-packed season!

Also returning to the CW tonight is iZombie, which I ended up really enjoying last season. I had the chance to talk with some of the cast and creators of the show at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. You can find my videos at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s premiere of The Flash, “The Man Who Saved Central City,” Barry decides to protect Central City on his own, but when Atom Smasher attacks, Iris pleads with Barry to let his friends help protect the citizens. Meanwhile, Cisco helps Joe with his Meta Task Force.

See if Barry will let his friends help tonight on The CW at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Limitless, The Muppets, Fresh Off the Boat, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, Grandfathered, The Grinder, Scream Queens, and Face Off.
