Jenny’s Choice #1

younger331smallIt’s a busy night for me tonight, but one of the things I’m most excited about is the series premiere of Younger, on TV Land. This new romantic comedy stars Sutton Foster (Bunheads) as Liza, who goes back to work at age 40, only to find out she’s considered too old in her line of work, the competitive world of publishing. Her best friend Maggie (Debi Mazar, Entourage) convinces her to change her look and lie on her resume and pretend to be 26…and it works. Miriam Shor (GCB) plays Liza’s prickly boss Diana, while her new “friend” and coworker Kelsey is played by Hilary Duff. Meanwhile, Liza meets sexy tattoo artist Josh (played by Nico Tortorella, The Following) at a bar and tries to tell him how old she is, but…well, let’s just say that I wouldn’t be trying to hurry him out of my life either!

This seems like it’s going to be a good fit on TV Land. It’s not a show about teenagers. These are adults out in the real world, but the cast is still young and fun and the show looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. Sutton Foster is adorable, Debi Mazar is funny, Hilary Duff’s character seems great (from the previews I’ve seen), and eye candy Nico Tortorella sure won’t make it hard to watch. *laugh*

On tonight’s first episode, “Pilot,” a 40-year-old, single mother changes her look to get her dream job, but after passing for a woman in her mid-twenties, she must find a way to keep up the ruse. Then on “Liza Sows Her Oates,” Liza must make an aging writer’s work appealing to a younger audience; Liza goes on a great date with Josh but wants to look for a more age-appropriate partner.

Check out the 1-hour series premiere tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

kotn2015smallTonight, the third season of King of the Nerds comes to an end and a new King (or Queen) will sit atop the Throne of Games. Last week, the six remaining nerds were put into alien cocoons and had to answer general nerd trivia questions and got shot in the face with “acid” when they got a question wrong. The game was a double-elimination, and the last nerd standing got immunity from the Nerd-Off. However, in a twist that wasn’t revealed until after-the-fact, one of the two contestants who eliminated from the trivia first would go home immediately. As a result, Amanda was sent home and Ben got the immunity—and the choice of one of the Nerd-Off contestants.

In the throne room, Ben announced that he would be sending Raychelle, and the others voted to send Lily. The two girls played a giant game of Pocket Nerds (aka Stratego), and it looked like Raychelle was going to win, until she accidentally moved the wrong piece. This left the door open for Lily to make a Hail Mary run for her opponent’s flag, causing Raychelle to be sent home.

So the final four are Ben, Jonathan, Kaitlin, and Lily. Out of that group, the only person I don’t want to win is Lily, and I would prefer that Jonathan or Kaitlin win over Ben. I think Jonathan has done a good job at plotting and planning his way to the end, and Kaitlin—who came off as obnoxious and arrogant in the premiere—has really grown on me. Overall, it’s been another really fun season, and it’s sad to see it come to an end, but I’m looking forward to seeing what lies in store for tonight’s final challenges.

On tonight’s episode, “The Nerdtastic Finale,” the winning nerd is crowned in the Season 3 finale, which comes complete with a witty monster and a gauntlet of geeky tests and schemes.

See who comes out on top tonight on TBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Amazing Race, Cristela, Glee, 12 Monkeys, and Helix.

hawaiifiveo227smallI’ve really been impressed with the stories on Hawaii Five-0 this season, and I continue to be amazed at the character growth weekly. Last week’s episode was an incredible nail biter, while we watched McGarrett and the team track down an arsonist with the help of a suspended ATF Special Agent Kathy Millwood (Melina Kanakaredes, CSI: NY), whose husband was killed by the arsonist. They managed to track him down to a hotel, but he took Agent Millwood hostage and planned on burning them down together in the hotel room. I was actually a little concerned we were going to have to watch yet another burn victim scene in this episode, but thankfully Steve saved the day and got to Kathy before the gas she was doused with was lit, turning her into a human torch. The subplot of this episode was really good with Danny and Amber going away for the weekend, but little did Amber know her abusive ex-husband, Frank, was on the island looking for her. Turned out that Frank was sent to jail for almost killing Amber, whose real name is actually Melissa. No matter what you call her, she was not looking to see him again. Unfortunately for Danny, who didn’t know anything about Frank, the man tracked them to the cottage and he knocked Danny out in the kitchen. When Danny came around, he saw Frank holding a knife to Amber. Always the hero, Danny jumped into motion, and while he saved Amber, he got stabbed himself. My favorite part came when Amber was leaving to drive Danny to the hospital and Frank jumped in front of the car. Amber hit him and then proceeded to run him over—karma at its finest, if you ask me. In the end, Danny survived, Amber told him everything, and of course Steve rushed to the hospital to check up on his partner. I’m really looking forward to where this season is headed, but wherever it is, you can be sure it’s going to be fantastic.

On tonight’s episode, “Kuka’awale (Stakeout),” McGarrett and Danny work on their relationship while they stakeout a woman’s apartment after she escapes following a diamond robbery. Max Weinberg, Cloris Leachman, Charlie Saxton, Jon Lovitz, & Jessica Lowndes guest star, and Daniel Dae Kim makes his directorial debut.

To see how this bromance couple works on their relationship, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching The Amazing Race, 12 Monkeys, and Glee.

groundfloor23smallIn a bizarre move, TBS canceled one of my favorite comedies, Ground Floor, so next week’s season finale will be the series finale. It’s odd, since the ratings have been going UP for the show, and it sucks since I’m sure they didn’t find out about it much earlier than the news was released to the public, so I doubt they had time to prepare, which means the finale may suck for a series ender. 🙁

The show’s been on a great trend, getting Mansfield more involved with all the others (last week’s dinner with Brody, Jenny, Harvard, & Lindsay was particularly funny). Jenny has gone back to college — with Mansfield’s help — and Brody is now living with Jenny in her apartment. The only sticking point has been that Jenny told Brody she never wanted to get married. With the show ending next week, unless they knew ahead of time and planned for it somehow, we’ll never see if he’s able to change her mind. And don’t let the episode title & description fool you, because if it does, I think you’ll be disappointed! 🙁

On tonight’s episode, “The Proposal Pt 1,” Brody’s ex-girlfriend Heather (Anna Camp) returns as a partner in the company, and Brody thinks he’s falling behind. Jenny decides to try to cheer him up by helping him cross something off his “goal” list. Lindsay helps Mansfield when his daughter’s perfect island wedding goes awry.

To see if Lindsay & Jenny can help Mansfield & Brody, tune in to TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef: Junior, NCIS (Palmer’s baby shower at work!), Hotel Showdown, Kate Plus 8, Married at First Sight , NCIS: NOLA (CGIS Agent Abigail Borin is back — Borin needs her own show: CGIS!), Chicago Fire, Chopped, Forever, Person of Interest, Restaurant Startup, & Cougar Town.

hawaiifiveo130smallI’m happy that Hawaii Five-0 is coming back tonight after a week off, because it’s still one of my favorite shows to enjoy on a Friday night. The last episode, we watched as Steve lost his mind when his car was stolen, demanding the uniforms find it right away—they did, but unfortunately it had already been stripped. Steve pulled a MacGyver move and made fingerprint-lifting solution out of stuff in his trunk, finding the prints of the thief, who turned out to be a homeless teenage boy. I loved seeing the soft side of Steve as he gave the kid a break, got him a job, and showed a kindness for his situation—it’s a rare moment for the usually tough Navy Seal. The case of the week was a disturbing one, where we found out that the murders were being committed to cover up a crime that was committed years ago, when a security officer from a boys’ probation camp killed four boys because he said no one would miss them. I was so sad watching that but happy that in the end, the truth came out and the boys got justice.

On tonight’s episode, “La Po’ino (Doomsday),” a patient with a contagious and deadly strain of bird flu is kidnapped—and the people responsible plan to weaponize the virus. Terry O’Quinn guest stars.

To see how the team help save Hawaii from the virus, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Hart of Dixie, Constantine, 12 Monkeys, Glee, Grimm, and Blue Bloods.
